THE GPM IS COMING!!! It’s getting close! Next month on Sunday October 4 the Evansville Bicycle Club will put on the Great Pumpkin Metric bicycle ride at the 4-H Center. Plans are in the works for another fun filled day of bicycling, eating, listening to a little music, and enjoying the day with area cyclists and friends. All EBC members are needed to make this a success. We need volunteers on Satur-day night as well as on Sunday. If you have a group of friends who ride, please encourage them to sign up early and enjoy the day. There is another article in this newsletter listing all the areas that need help.

As to the month of September, it looks like lots of fun ahead too! We have a hosted ride on September 13 at the home of Tom Gabe at 5101 Kleitz Rd. on the north side. The route has not been revealed to me yet but the party promises to be fun! Tom has a lake on his property, which we have been in-vited to swim in as well. This ride is being called Tom Gabe’s Second to None Hosted Ride for a reason.

Mark your calendar and come on out to enjoy good fellow-ship and a great ride, food and fun. Remember that even if the weather is less than favorable Tom will have worked hard to plan the food and fun. Please come join the fun even

if you can’t ride. The ride is scheduled for 3:30 in place of the Sunday afternoon Olmstead ride. Thank you Tom for a fun day! Please notice the evening ride times have changed. They start at 5:30 now due to earlier sunsets. Please plan according to your speed and do not take on more than you can do before dark.

There are many events this month also. We have the Sunrise Century in Clarksville, TN on 9-5, EBC’s special Labor Day ride on 9-7, OKHT on 9-12 and 13, PAC Challenge and Hub City Tour on 9-12, Pedaling for Pups 9-19 and lastly the EBC Pre-Pumpkin on 9-27. All of these rides and the website to register for them show on the calendar. The Pre-Pumpkin ride is an opportunity for EBC members who are volunteer-ing during the GPM to ride the route. We also double check that all the marks are good that day.

October promises to be a fun filled month as well. Keep those legs moving! Remember to volunteer or gather a group of riders for the first Sunday of October and show up at the 4-H fairgrounds for some fun times! Even if you ride you can stay around and help with the clean up at the end of the day! We need you!

This year commemorates the 34th annual edition of our beloved Great Pumpkin Metric. This letter is to encourage all of you to either volunteer your services or register and ride! If you’re riding, bring a friend or two, or more.

Get a “team” together--WE ENCOURAGE FIVE OR MORE! Each team will receive a plaque with the name of the team plus the total number of miles ridden by the team. (see EBC website www.evansvillebicycleclub.org) Enjoy the type of camaraderie that only a cycling event like this provides. Push that hill; fly down the other side; sprint to the next rest stop once it comes into view. Get those endorphins rushing! We also ask that you consider becoming a $100 Patron. Each allows one entry and one shirt plus the rest goes to the club. We are patrons because we love the GPM and support it wholeheartedly. Volunteers are needed for cooking

We are once again having TWO side-by-side buildings at the 4H Center. One for registration, food and music like other years. The second building is for vendors—where all the shops from around Indiana displayed their wares. There will also be several non-profit organiza-tions there to discuss their programs. This year’s music will be provided by The Spokes and is guaraunteed to be a great time. Ronnie Lee’s famous pasta will be served after the ride; Schellers and Dan’s Comp are all supplying sag vehicles. If you’re riding, don’t procrastinate and register the day of the ride
