I am encouraged by the growing interest in TIME Task Force initiatives. From the well- attended quarterly meeting at the GSP headquarters in Atlanta to the upcoming commercial vehicle rescue course in Cartersville, participation is on the rise for all of our programs. I am also pleased that the recent quick clearance workshop conducted in Catoosa County with the I-95 Corridor Coalition has helped create a new traffic incident management (TIM) team to serve Gordon, Whitfield, Catoosa, Walker and Dade counties. In addition to its services, the Martins full- service operation includes an automotive repair shop and gas station. The company also provides quick clearance services in responding to TRIP incidents. “The biggest benefit we have received since being part of the TRIP program is being recognized by police and fire officials and the community for handling accident scenes in a safe and timely manner,” Rodney Martin said of his family’s company. “With the TRIP program in our area we have a TIM meeting that allows us to recognize law enforcement, fire department and other agencies as well as our Commissioner and Mayor.” Meeting Recap: April 2012 Quarterly Attendees filled the media room of the Georgia Department of Public Safety / State Patrol Headquarters in Atlanta during the recent TIME Task Force quarterly meeting. This meeting included an incident debrief covering a crash on I-20 in Newton County involving six school buses and more than 60 injured students. Responding officers shared how multiple agencies and jurisdictions drew on the training and cooperative resources to clear the large interstate crash. A representative of the firm that designed the new diverging diamond interchange (DDI) at Ashford Dunwoody Road and I-285 described the steps taken to maximize driver safety as the new configuration debuted at the busy interchange. Speakers from the Department of Driver Services provided an overview of the categories of personal identification Georgians will need to supply in order to obtain a more secure driver’s license in the future. The theme, "TIMELine, Celebrating 10 Years of Traffic Incident Management Enhancement," centers on the incident management timeline and our purpose of ending the crippling effects that traffic incidents have on mobility, economic vitality and safety. This conference is the premier event connecting policy makers, emergency responders, transportation system managers and other stakeholders addressing incident clearance and roadway safety.
