PTA-FOB Meeting 10/13/09

Pledge of Allegiance

Intro

Treasurer: $1574.70 beginning balance, In-n-Out fundraiser= $4164.90, $1400.87 to In-n-Out,$4255.93= ending balance, need to pay insurance, PTA membership drive ends Oct 30 ($10/ person) Ms. Sandler’s class has the most Mr. Ramirez is second, class to hit 100% first gets t-shirts, In-n-Out did not net fundraising funds

Earthquake kits: went out yesterday, city-wide earthquake drill at 11 am

Holiday gift basket: we are starting to collect for that, for those in need, supply the boxes (25-30) will be wrapped, gift cards instead of baskets?

Bear Scare: paper work needs to be done, not 100% sure it will be on 10/ 31, may need tomove, be on blacktop: food/ canopies/ games/ haunted house, we need volunteers (1 hour shift),decorations needed: front entrance, food: tacos? $500 (always leftovers), no real competitors, noentry fee, food tickets, open for suggestions, Jamba Juice (less vendors, more fun for kids),games are set, Lisa will be face painting but needs help, get teachers involved, decorating pumpkins, raffle prizes, author coming for reading, magician, getting pictures taken, $500 toBear Scare? motion passes, bounce house/ obstacle course

Gift wrap fundraiser: everyone has turned in their forms, $12,000 gross, $550 donations,entertainment book (soft sell), get 40%, sell at Bear Scare, stuff will be delivered on Nov. 4th,will be asking for volunteers to help unload, cookie dough will need to be picked up in the Parent

Center after school.

Recycle: inkjet and laser cartridges, cellphones, earn points to buy things for the school, digitalcameras for some of the classes, drop off in office or will be provided with shipping materials if you are in a big office, fliers will be out soon, there’s a list, 2,300 pts and digital camera is about250 pts

Relay for Life: walk-a-thon for American Cancer Society, we had the largest team last year,May 15-16

Holiday Boutique: November 21, still looking for vendors, we get their entry fee and 20% of their profits, looking for someone to replace her to plan for next year, fliers will come out nextweek, visit the website, raffle here is separate from the silent auction, holiday fair is run by GirlScouts, raffle tickets are $1, Holiday Fair for the kids, kids can come and shop, need volunteersto help run that

Other announcement: if you come across a useful item call Kristin and she’ll tell you whether to buy it or not, kindergarteners and third graders don’t have requirements yet but all other grades do, first grade parents: novelty pencils that are holiday themed (oversized pencils- 20 of

them), second grade parents: antlers, rest of the list is on the website, talk up the bear wear, havekids wear it on the day of the fair and on Fridays, Bear Wear in different colors?, only problem ismoney, Theresa taking inventory

After school classes: there will always be someone there to take the kids where they need to go,

in December there will be a class on how to make truffles and hot coco mix (2 days), silk screening class will be 3 days, Nadia is doing flag football, may do something with Italian dollmaking(good= candy, bad= coal), Lisa is doing an art class, kindergarteners are welcomedepending on the instructor, we earn money from this. Some of the teachers keep a percentage of the fee, some donate their fee.

School Cents: Shop at West Side Pavilion take your receipts to customer service. Schoolreceives credit for $$ spent. You can also give your receipts to Nadia who takes them all in oncea month; she will return them to you.

Book fair: buy one get one free, we do not make profit off it, also sell pens/ pencils/ paper/

erasers, there will be another one in spring which is where we can make money, no theme yet,don’t need sign ups until November (but start thinking about it)

Finances: need outline of fundraising (backwards and forwards), better budgeting and looking athow much work yields how much profit
