Could pollution of oceans and seas affect everyone? The pollution of the seas is a problem that affects everyone. It can affect the humans directly or indirectly. The seas get brunt of human waste whether by dumping or natural run off from the land. The sea and ocean is the environment for

many types of sea animals, it has a lot of species and has big biodiversity.

About 80% of the pollution of the seas comes from the factories that are near the shore. The other 20% approximately is because the floods of boats that had got broken in the middle of the sea, this causes the oil

and gasoline to go to the sea which, pollutes. Sometimes the pollution can get toxic and poisonous. This can get so harmful, that it

can cause damage to the food chain. It contaminates all the species and it can

even cause the human to get poisoned by this venom. Many animals are dying and

people should get conscious about that.

People are not conscious about how much they are polluting and contaminating the

seas and oceans. Many species in the oceans die every day because the pollution of the seas. Animals are an important part in the biodiversity of the world. Without them we lose one of the main things we need in life. The sea biodiversity could delete many incomes for many countries). We need these things for eating and living and without them we don’t

have anything to eat.

We should make a solution for reducing this pollution and, if it is possible to completely eliminate the pollution of the seas. The seas are being contaminated and we should cure this. The pollution of the seas is an

issue that affects our planet and us, the human species.

POLLUTION OF THE SEAS

Causes and effects

Oil pollution

Most people say that oils spills on the seas is one of the main causes of the ocean pollution. Although it is a part of it, it is only 11 percent of the pollution. Many of the oil leaks in the last 20 years have been caused by human errors. In 1992, there were 611 incidents of oil pollution in UK. One of the major ones was the Sea Empress ran on February 15th 1996 at 8:07 pm. The Sea Empress lost around 70,000 tons of crude oil. It is relatively light oil, which gives out its most harmful toxins (poisons) into the water and into the air within a short time. The effect of this was that the poisons are passed up to the food chain poisoning and killing lots of spices. In West Angle Bay, one of only seven colonies nationwide of Green Rockpool starfish has been wiped out,

and the whole ecosystem is threatened with damage and disruption. There are around 85,000 grey seals around Britain’s coast approximately half the world’s population. Around 5,000 live on the Pembrokeshire coast that was affected by the oil spill. Observing in the summer of 1997 calculates the impact of the oil spill on the seals was that it affected the seals because they ate the contaminated fish. Also another effect was that between 20,000 and 40,000 seabirds, died as a result of this disaster. They ended all full of oil in their skins, so when they cleaned themselves, they ate the poisons and eventually died.

Sewage

Years ago many sewage pipelines where built because people did not know about the effects of pollution and they thought that the sea would weak sewage. The quality of water around our coasts is contaminated. In most of these beaches people don’t even know if the water is infectious or not. This causes diseases and infections for people who use this polluted and infected water.

We don’t want this to happen

-Possible solutions for the problems of ocean pollution-There are various ways of preventing ocean pollution. Here are some ways of preventing it:

Worldly:

Avoid the transportation of petroleum by ocean or river. Avoid having oil factories or similar ones near a river, lake or sea. Having stronger rules for industries and manufacturing Make stronger laws to avoid throwing any kind of waste from going

into the ocean.

At home:

Start to use reusable shopping bags to reduce the use of plastic bags.

Start volunteering to clean up a beach Join an ocean saving organization Recycle to avoid too much waste going to the ocean Avoid garbage being thrown onto streets because eventually they

will arrive to the ocean or a water source and contaminate it.

Our own proposal:

Our proposal is to stop creating so much waste, and to do this you have to follow this steps:

1. When you go to the supermarket, start buying objects that are made of recyclable material so this way you can then recycle after it breaks or ends.

2. When you go shopping, use reusable shopping bags and reduce the use of plastic bags by choosing items that come in containers that can be reused instead of the ones that come inside plastic bags.

If you were to throw a piece of trash onto the ground into could travel to a

storm and into the ocean drains.

Stop this! You can make a

difference. You can make a change.
