Oceans and Society: Blue Planet An Integrating Task of GEO for Oceans
Ocean Observations and the GEO Blue Planet Initiative
Transcript of Ocean Observations and the GEO Blue Planet Initiative
DG Research and Innovation
Coastal erosion in a Pacific Island from Vanuatu
This side event is intended to outline how
oceans and society are intricately and
inextricably linked. Although humans benefit
tremendously from life sustaining services the
oceans provide, we need to increase awareness
and understanding of the impacts that our
everyday actions have on the oceans and its
resources, and, therefore, on each and every
one of us.
The side event will provide an opportunity to
discuss related activities, both past and
potentially for the future, coordinated through
the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) and the
stakeholders involved in observing the Pacific
Ocean.
In this context the implication of user needs on
the potential evolution of the current Global
Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS)
concept shall be discussed.
