Tuesday, June 2, 2020 - DEPART USAToday we depart Seattle on LH491 at 1:50pm on our transatlantic flight to Frankfurt.

Wednesday, June 3, 2020 - ARRIVE MUNICHUpon arriving in Frankfurt at 8:35am, we will transfer to LH100 to Munich at 10:15am. We will arrive in Munich at 11:10am and meet our tour guide and bus driver. Based on the time of arrival, we will enjoy a short tour of Munich before going to our hotel for dinner and overnight.

Thursday, June 4, 2020 - MUNICHWe will meet our local English-speaking guide and enjoy a tour of Munich. We begin with a visit to the Marienplatz with the world famous “Glockenspiel” and the twin-towered Frauenkirche, the most familiar landmark of old Munich. Continue on to see the Asamkirche, dedicated to the martyr St. John Nepomuk. We will see the town hall, and the magnificent boulevard, Ludwigsstrasse, with its Feldherrenhalle and the Siegestor Monuments, both created by King Ludwig I in the middle of the 19th century. See the Residenz, the palace of the kings of Bavaria, and the Hofgarten. Celebrate Mass at a local church. Lunch on your own. The afternoon is at leisure to explore the city on your own. Dinner at the hotel.

Friday, June 5, 2020 - MUNICH / NEUSCHWANSTEIN CASTLE /HOHENSCHWANGAU CASTLE / MUNICHToday, we take a day trip into the Bavarian Alps. Stop en route to visit the Wieskirche, hidden amidst green meadows and snowcapped mountains, this ‘Church in the Meadow’ is considered to be the most beautiful rococo church in Europe. Celebrate Mass at the Shrine. After lunch, see the world famous royal palaces of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau. Visit the Cinderella-style Neuschwanstein Castle. Go back to the times of Wagner as you visit the royal apartments decorated with scenes from German sagas and Wagner’s operas, the throne rooms and music halls. Then visit Hohenschwangau Castle, summer and hunting residence of King Maximilian II. His son Ludwig II, spent his childhood there and after King Maximilian’s death, he designed the royal rooms on his terms. Dinner and overnight in Munich.

Saturday, June 6, 2020 - MUNICH / OBERAMMERGAU / PASSION PLAYOn to Oberammergau. The history of the passion play at Oberammergau goes back to the year 1634, when the quaint alpine village of

Oberammergau was threatened by the deadly and contagious disease known as the Black Plague that scourged Europe, killing two-thirds of the population of Germany. The people of Oberammergau vowed that

if the village could be spared, a re-enactment of the life and suffering of Christ would be performed. The village was miraculously saved from the ravages of the Black Death. Since that date, the play has been performed every ten years.

Sunday, June 7, 2020 - OBERAMMERGAU / MARKTL AM INN /ALTÖTTING / SALZBURGToday we depart Oberammergau toward Salzburg. Along the way, we stop at Marktl Am Inn, the birthplace of Emeritus Pope Benedict. We visit his birthplace and the church of St. Oswald where Pope Benedict was christened. Continue to Altötting where we visit the Gnadenkapelle “Grace Chapel” housing the statue of the smiling Madonna of Altötting. Continue to Salzburg, passing en route the Salzburg Lake District where many scenes of The Sound of Music movie were pictured. Dinner and overnight.

Monday, June 8, 2020 - SALZBURGVisit the Shrine of Maria Plain. In 1633, a painting of the Blessed Mother was found undamaged in the ruins of a totally burned wooden house. In 1656, a small wooden chapel was built at this location and in 1710, the chapel was rebuilt and houses the first copy of the miraculous image. In 1951, Pope Pius XII conferred the title of this Shrine to ‘‘Basilica Minor”. Celebrate Mass at the Shrine of Maria Plain. Afterwards, take a guided tour of Salzburg’s sights along the Getreidegasse, the city’s pedestrian street, lined with authentic 17th and 18th century buildings including the house where Mozart was born. See the Residenzplatz, the center square of Salzburg, dominated by the dynamic sculpture of the Residenzbrunnen, the largest Baroque fountain north of the Alps. The Residenz building, built in 1596, was once the palace of the Bishops. Nearby stands the Cathedral dating from 1614. Next, visit St. Peter’s Abbey, next to the cemetery portrayed in the film, The Sound of Music, and where most of Mozart’s religious works were premiered

(exterior views only). Lunch on your own. The rest of the day is at leisure for personal activities.

Tuesday, June 9, 2020 - SALZBURG / MARIAZELL / VIENNADepart Salzburg to Mariazell, picturesquely located in the Salza Valley. Visit the Shrine venerated for the Virgin Mary image carved in the lime tree wood. We celebrate Mass at the Shrine. Continue our drive to Vienna, the “City of the Waltz” and one of the Europe’s loveliest cities. Dinner and overnight.

Wednesday, June 10, 2020 - VIENNAOur morning tour of Vienna takes us to the old town, walking through the university and Opera House, passing by many of Vienna’s landmarks such as the Hofburg Palace, Albertina, Donner Fountain, Spanish Riding School and St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Mass at a local church. In the afternoon, we continue toward Schönbrunn Palace for a tour of the palace and gardens. Dinner and overnight.

Thursday, June 11, 2020 - VIENNA / SVATA HORA / PRAGUEToday we depart Vienna to Prague. We stop to visit Svata Hora, the Czech main Marian Shrine known as the White Mountain. Celebrate Mass at the Shrine. Continue to Prague for dinner and overnight.

Friday, June 12, 2020 - PRAGUEWe have a full day of sightseeing in Prague focusing on Hradcany Castle, St. Vitus Cathedral, the Royal Castle, St. George’s Basilica, and the Church of Our Lady Victorious, where we see the Statue of the Infant Jesus of Prague. Celebrate Mass in Church of Our Lady Victorious. Later, cross the Charles Bridge visiting the old town, the Market Square “Astronomical clock” and Wenceslas Square. Dinner and overnight.

Saturday, June 13, 2020 - DEPART PRAGUE TO USAToday we depart from Prague to the USA. We begin our return on LH1403, departing at 6:00am toward Frankfurt, to arrive at 7:10am. In Frankfurt, we will transfer to LH 490, departing at 10:45am, and arriving in Seattle at 11:55am.

Since 1634, the most famous Passion Play in the world has taken place in Oberammergau. The tradition, maintained and experienced almost without interruption for over 380 years, of putting on the play about the suffering, death and resurrection of Christ every ten years, will be continued for the 42nd time in 2020. It is regarded as the most important Passion Play in the world. The village at the edge of the Bavarian Alps expects approximately 500,000 visitors for the Passion Play, over half of which will be international guests. A special law is in effect to insure that all actors of the world’s largest amateur dramatic performance come from the village. All participants, from actors playing the big speaking parts such as Jesus, Mary or Judas, through members of the choir, orchestra members, firemen and ushers, must have been born in Oberammergau or lived there for at least 20 years. Over 2,000 Oberammergau villagers will participate in the 2020 Passion Play.
