8:00am Holy Communion
10:30am Family Communion*
The Order of Service is contained in the separate Service Book.
Opening Hymn*
1. Sing of the Lord’s goodness, Father of all wisdom, come to him and bless his name. Mercy he has shown us, his love is for ever,
faithful to the end of days.
Come then, all you nations, sing of your Lord’s goodness,
melodies of praise and thanks to God. Ring out the Lord’s glory, praise him with your music, worship him and bless his name.
2. Power he has wielded, honour is his garment, risen from the snares of death.
His word he has spoken, one bread he has broken, new life he now gives to all.
3. Courage in our darkness, comfort in our sorrow,
Spirit of our God most high; solace for the weary, pardon for the sinner,
splendour of the living God.
4. Praise him with your singing, praise him with the trumpet, praise God with the lute and harp;
praise him with the cymbals, praise him with your dancing, praise God till the end of days.
Words: Ernest Sands (b 1949)

Collect
Almighty God, in Christ you make all things new:
transform the poverty of our nature by the riches of your grace, and in the renewal of our lives
make known your heavenly glory; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.
First Reading – Isaiah 62.1-5
For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, until her vindication shines out like the dawn, and her salvation like a burning torch. The
nations shall see your vindication, and all the kings your glory; and you shall be called by a new name that the mouth of the LORD will give. You shall be a crown of beauty
in the hand of the LORD, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God. You shall no more be termed Forsaken, and your land shall no more be termed Desolate; but you
shall be called My Delight Is in Her, and your land Married; for the LORD delights in you, and your land shall be married. For as a young man marries a young woman, so shall your builder marry you, and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall
your God rejoice over you.
Second Reading – 1 Corinthians 12.1-11*
Concerning spiritual gifts, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. You know that when you were pagans, you were enticed and led astray to idols that
could not speak. Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking by the Spirit of God ever says ‘Let Jesus be cursed!’ and no one can say ‘Jesus is Lord’
except by the Holy Spirit. Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities,
but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. To one is given through the Spirit
the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the
one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the discernment of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the
interpretation of tongues. All these are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses.

Gradual Hymn*
1. One shall tell another, and he shall tell his friend,
husbands, wives and children shall come following on.
From house to house in families shall more be gathered in,
and lights will shine in every street, so warm and welcoming.
Come on in and taste the new wine,
the wine of the kingdom, the wine of the kingdom of God.
Here is healing and forgiveness, the wine of the kingdom,
the wine of the kingdom of God.
2. Compassion of the Father is ready now to flow,
through acts of love and mercy we must let it show.
He turns now from his anger to show a smiling face,
and longs that all should stand beneath the fountain of his grace.
3. He longs to do much more than
our faith has yet allowed, to thrill us and surprise us
with his sovereign power. Where darkness has been darkest
the brightest light will shine; his invitation comes to us,
it’s yours and it is mine.

Gospel – John 2.1-11
On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the
wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, ‘They have no wine.’ And Jesus said to her, ‘Woman, what concern is that to you and to me? My hour has not yet come.’ His mother said to the servants, ‘Do whatever he tells you.’ Now standing there
were six stone water-jars for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus said to them, ‘Fill the jars with water.’ And they filled them up to
the brim. He said to them, ‘Now draw some out, and take it to the chief steward.’ So they took it. When the steward tasted the water that had become wine, and did not
6
know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the
steward called the bridegroom and said to him, ‘Everyone serves the good wine first, and then the inferior wine after the guests have become drunk. But you have kept
the good wine until now.’ Jesus did this, the first of his signs, in Cana of Galilee, and revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.
Offertory Hymn*
1. Christ is our light! the bright and morning star covering with radiance all from near and far.
Christ be our light, shine on, shine on we pray into our hearts, into our world today.
2. Christ is our love! baptized that we may know
the love of God among us, swooping low. Christ be our love, bring us to turn our face
and see you in the light of heaven’s embrace.
3. Christ is our joy! transforming wedding guest!
Through water turned to wine the feast was blessed. Christ be our joy; your glory let us see, as your disciples did in Galilee.
Words: Leith Fisher (1941-2009) Music: Godmanchester, Peter Moger (b 1964)

Communion Hymns*
1. Heav’n shall not wait for the poor to lose their patience,
the scorned to smile, the despised to find a friend: Jesus is Lord; he has championed the unwanted; in him injustice confronts its timely end.
7
2. Heav’n shall not wait for the rich to share their fortunes,
the proud to fall, the élite to tend the least: Jesus is Lord; he has shown his master’s privilege –
to kneel and wash servants’ feet before they feast.
3. Heav’n shall not wait for the dawn of great ideas, thoughts of compassion divorced from cries of pain:
Jesus is Lord; he has married word and action; his cross and company make his purpose plain.
4. Heav’n shall not wait for our legalised obedience,
defined by statute, to strict conventions bound: Jesus is Lord; he has hallmarked true allegiance –
goodness appears where his grace is sought and found.
5. Heav’n shall not wait for triumphant hallelujahs, when earth has passed and we reach another shore:
Jesus is Lord in our present imperfection; his pow’r and love are for now and then for evermore.
Words & Music: John L Bell & Graham Maule © 1987 WGRG, Iona Community (The Source – 151)
1. Name of all majesty,
fathomless mystery, King of all ages
by angels adored; power and authority,
splendour and dignity, bow to his mastery,
Jesus is Lord!
2. Child of our destiny, God from eternity,
love of the Father on sinners outpoured;
see now what God has done sending his only Son,
Christ the beloved One, Jesus is Lord!
3. Saviour of Calvary,
costliest victory, darkness defeated
and Eden restored; born as a man to die,
nailed to a cross on high. cold in the grave to lie,
Jesus is Lord!
4. Source of all sovereignty, light, immortality,
life everlasting and heaven assured;
so with the ransomed, we praise him eternally,
Christ in his majesty, Jesus is Lord!

Post Communion Prayer
God of glory, you nourish us with your Word
who is the bread of life: fill us with your Holy Spirit
that through us the light of your glory may shine in all the world.
We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Final Hymn
1. Jesus is Lord! Creation’s voice proclaims it, for by his power each tree and flower was planned and made.
Jesus is Lord! The universe declares it, sun, moon and stars in heaven cry: Jesus is Lord!
Jesus is Lord! Jesus is Lord!
praise him with Alleluias, for Jesus is Lord!
2. Jesus is Lord! Yet from his throne eternal in flesh he came to die in pain on Calvary’s tree.
Jesus is Lord! From him all life proceeding, yet gave his life a ransom, thus setting us free:
3. Jesus is Lord! O’er sin the mighty conqueror, from death he rose; and all his foes shall own his name. Jesus is Lord! God sends his Holy Spirit
to show by works of power that Jesus is Lord:

Psalm 96 cantate domino
J R Middleton
1 O sing unto the | Lord a ∙ new | song :
sing unto the | Lord —| all the ∙ whole | earth. 2 Sing unto the Lord and | praise his | Name :
be telling of his sal-| vation ∙ from | day to | day. 3 Declare his honour | unto ∙ the | heathen :
and his | wonders ∙ unto | all — | people.
4 For the Lord is great and cannot | worthily ∙ be | prais’d : he is more to be | fear’d than | all — | gods.
5 As for all the gods of the heathen,| they are ∙ but | idols : but it is the | Lord that | made the | heavens.
6 Glory and | worship ∙ are be-| fore him : power and | honour ∙ are | in his | sanctuary.
7 Ascribe unto the Lord O ye | kindreds ∙ of the | people :
ascribe unto the | Lord — | worship ∙ and | power. 8 Ascribe unto the Lord the honour | due unto ∙ his | Name :
bring | presents ∙ and | come into ∙ his | courts. 9 O worship the Lord in the | beauty ∙ of | holiness :
let the | whole earth | stand in | awe of him.
10 Tell it out among the heathen that the | Lord is | King : and that it is he who hath made the round world so fast that it cannot be mov’d;
and how that he shall | judge the | peo-ple | righteously. 11 Let the heavens rejoice and let the | earth be | glad :
let the sea make a noise and | all that | there-in | is. 12 Let the field be joyful and | all that ∙ is | in it :
then shall all the trees of the wood re-| joice be-| fore the | Lord.
†13 For he cometh, * for he cometh to | judge the | earth : and with righteousness to judge the world,
and the | peo-ple | with his | truth.
Glory | be ∙ to the | Father, and to the | Son and ∙ to the | Ho-ly | Ghost;
As it was in the beginning is | now and ∙ ever | shall be : world | with-out | end, A- | men.

First Lesson – 1 Samuel 3.1-20
Office Hymn 480 – In Christ there is no East or West
Magnificat & Nunc Dimittis – set 12
Second Lesson – Ephesians 4.1-16
Anthem
Listen sweet Dove unto my song,
and spread thy golden wings in me; hatching my tender heart so long, till it get wing, and flie away with thee.
Such glorious gifts thou didst bestow, that the earth did like a heav’n appeare;
the starres were coming down to know if they might mend their wages, and serve here.
The sunne, which once did shine alone,
hung down his head, and wisht for night, when he beheld twelve sunnes for one
going about the world, and giving light.
Lord, though we change, thou art the same; the same sweet God of love and light:
restore this day, for thy great name, unto his ancient and miraculous right.
