OAK SCIENCE FAIR
2021
Celebrating world Science Day
Oak Science fair
Oak Science fair is an annual event which engages students in scientific research to celebrated the World Science day.
WORLD SCIENCE DAY
World Science Day celebrated every 10th of November is an occasion that seeks to draw
attention to the importance of scientific work and aims to engage the wider public in emerging scientific issues, like artificial intelligence or
renewable energy.
Importance of Science fair..
What you need to do..
1. Select a project Idea you want to work on
2. Identify the project category it fall under
3. Get it approved by your Science teacher to avoid
repeats.
4. Start your research by using The Science fair packet
shared with you along with this PPT
5. Share your video in the drive link shared by your
Science teacher.
Project Categories
1. Science for a Sustainable Future
2. Technology for disaster and risk management
3. Science to manage earth, ecosystem and biodiversity
(climate change-water management-adaptation-soil erosion)
4. Scientific and technological creativity
(Integrating and applying scientific ideas in daily life situations)
5. Designing scientific equipment(socio-economic and sustainable development of the
country)
1.Science for a Sustainable Future
What is sustainable Future?
"Sustainable Future is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”
What type of experiments are expected under this category?
Experiments designed based on find solutions to
today’s acute economic, social and
environmental challenges and to achieving sustainable development.
Examples:
simple experiments : food waste audit
experiment, food scrap growth experiment, the landfill experiment etc..
Advance experiments: Powered by Pee: Using
Urine in a Microbial Fuel Cell , Ecological Footprint Analysis etc..
2. Technology for disaster and risk management
• How technology can be used as disaster and risk management?
• Thousands of people are killed every year in natural disaster. In recent times, technology has been employed to fast track disaster relief efforts. For instance, drones and robots have been used to locate survivors and transmit information to emergency teams. They have also been used to drop humanitarian aid.
What type of experiments are expected underthis category?
Science experiment that teaches students aboutnature , its potential catastrophes and how tomanage the disaster with the help of seismograph, residence building etc. Understanding thesenatural events help them cope better with similarnatural emergencies they many encounter
Example: volcano activity, measuring earth-quake
3. Science to manage earth, ecosystem and biodiversity
• How does science help us to manage ecosystem?
• Natural and human-induced changes in Earth's interior, land surface, biosphere, atmosphere, and oceans affect all aspects of life. Understanding these changes requires a range of observations acquired from land, sea, air and space based platforms.
• What type of experiments are expected under this category?
• Experiments with primary priority to observe, measure the dynamic changes occurring in geological and biological system, and protect the vital ecosystem services.
• Examples: Measuring Photosynthesis, Ecological foot prints Soil erosion
4.Scientific and technological creativity
How does creativity help science and technology ?Technology can be defined as the disciplined process of using scientific materials and human resources to achieve human purpose. Creativity and innovation in science and technology is bridging the gap between secondary and tertiary levels of education. How is science is integrated and applied in daily life?
Science is valued by society because the application of scientific knowledge helps to satisfy many basic human needs and improved living standards.
What type of experiments are expected under this category?
Involves the experiments related to all the fields in the human life like agriculture, construction, communication, medicine, transportation, etc.
Examples: Battle of the Senses: Taste Versus Smell , Blood Clotting to the Rescue: How to Stop Too Much Blood from Flowing ,biotechnology .
5. Designing scientific equipment
• Does designing scientific equipment contribute to science learning?
• A scientific equipment is, broadly speaking, a device or tool used for scientific purposes, including the study of both natural phenomena and theoretical research. Designing scientific equipment provides opportunity for students to interact directly with material world or with the data drawn from the material world.
• What type of experiments are expected under this category?
• An experiments based on designing scientific tool, instrument, or device to conduct scientific investigation which involves measuring, observation, reaction, etc.
• Example: Building a Solar Powered Car, Making VR Headset at Home
Safety first…
Safety is part of science!
It is essential that before you start any experiment you check with an adult and do your project under supervision.
Take all the safety precautions necessary for your project
