Participants engage in projects and activities at our Department of Defense (DOD) customers’ laboratories and research facilities worldwide. These programs provide a flow of qualified researchers and technical expert s to participate in current research and development activities related to our DOD customers’ critical mission. Opportunities exist for Retired Scientists, Faculty, Students and recent Postgraduates (High School, Bachelor, Master and Doctoral). Degree disciplines include Neuroscience, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Fisheries and Wildlife, Forestry, Communications, Anthropology, Archeology, Biology, Ergonomics, Public Health, Physics, Nuclear Physics, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Botany, Ecology, Historic Preservation, Natural Resources, Geology, Epidemiology, Environmental Health Risk Assessment, Materials Science, Entomology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Nanotechnology, Biology and other disciplines. Since its inception in 1993, the ORISE Maryland programs have placed thousands of applicants at about 50 installations around the world. PROJECT DETAILS Twenty appointments are available with our DoD customers within the Was hington, DC metro area. Our DoD customers are seeking applicants that represent diverse groups for summer internship appointments from various Colleges and Universities within the region. The objective of the ORISE Summer Research Participation Program is to enhance the quantity, quality, and diversity of the future scientific, engineering and other academic disciplines. The Research Participation Program for DoD will provide opportunities for students to participate in experiential training activities at DOD approved locations. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS Applicants must be an undergraduate student that is enrolled full-time at a College or University within the region. Applicants must have completed their freshman year class requirements prior to beginning an appointment. Cumulative and semester/quarter GPA of 2.5 or higher (based on a 4.0 scale) in all completed undergraduate courses and in the major field of study is required. U.S. citizenship is required. The participants will be selected based on academic records, recommendations, engineering and applied research interests, and compatibility of background with applied research programs and projects. The initial appointment is for ten weeks during the summer. The appointment is full time. The participant will receive a monthly stipend. Stipend rates are determined based upon level of education, training, and experience. Travel and other costs will also be reimbursed for training related to the project and approved by ORISE and the host installation. The participant must show proof of health and medical insurance.
