Cape Union Marthas generouslydonated plantsto the City of 

Cape Town, to beautifythe ‘Paddocks’ area inthe Company’s Garden.The Paddocks is situated

behind the JewishSynagogue of which theCEO of Cape UnionMart, Philip Krawitzis a member. Due toPhilip’s involvementin the synagogue heand his staff memberscreated a symboliclandscape by plantingthe plants to represent

the Jewish Menorah. Thecandelabrum is one of the oldest symbols of the Jewish faith.

The staff hasvolunteered their timefor this project, one of many that Cape Union

Mart is involved infocusing on improvingthe environment. Theirinvolvement in suchprojects around thecountry will not onlyimprove the environmentbut also hopefullyget other companiesinvolved in similarprojects.

After a break of a six months andfollowing a successful three-day in-tensive Creative Cape Town Clustersat the Design Indaba Expo, Creative

Cape Town Clusters are back again. This time itmeets at a new venue – the Cape Town City Hallin Darling Street for a very Creative Cape TownClusters. At this event, Creative Cape Town willbe launching three new products: the CreativeCape Town Annual in partnership with Bell-Rob-erts Publishing; the Explore Creative Cape Townmap published by A&C Maps with designs byDesign Infestation; and the new Creative CapeTown website designed by Beanbag Media willall be made public. These products have been

made possible with the support of Cape TownTourism and the Central City ImprovementDistrict (CCID).

As always, there will be three dynamic speakersat the Clusters, and for the next session, each of the speakers have some connection to the newproducts. Michelle Matthews, who edited theAnnual and wrote for the Creative Cape Townwebsite, will be speaking on words and creativity; Jason Bagley who designed the new website, willspeak on websites, blogs and social networking;and Phillip Todres and Christo Maritz, who cre-ated the map, will speak on Cape Town,maps and design.

The Company’s Garden was thescene of creative inspirationsduring the month of August. SomeOak Trees were “dressed” in“designer wear” and a local retailerdecided to beautify the Paddocksas part of their “giving back to theenvironment” campaign.

fresh installation piecesthey called OAK COUTUREin the Company’s Garden

in the built up to CapeTown’s Fashion week. They

gathered local creativestogether to “dress” 5 of the

big oaks in the Company’sGardens. Ralma & Prelude

Textiles has donatedgenerous quantities

of fabric to make thishappen. Showcased here is a

design by Stiaan Louw.
