• When accepted for publication, publishers manage the process that determines how the work can be re-used:

• either Copyright Transfer Agreement (CTA)

• Publisher owns copyright and controls how you can use the work (e.g. limited distribution, archiving in CentAUR)

• or Licence

• Author retains copyright, specifying how others may re-use the work

Permits others to distribute, remix, tweak, and build upon your work, even commercially, as long as they credit you for the original creation.

CC-BY-NC Permits others to remix, tweak, and build upon your work non-commercially

CC-BY-ND Permits redistribution, commercial and non-commercial, of your work as long as it is passed along unchanged and in whole, with credit to you.

CC-BY-NC-ND Most restrictive, permits others to download your works and share them with others as long as they credit you, but they can’t change them in any way or use them commercially.

• unable to allow full text as was published version. Contacted author

• author sent published version again!

• author then promised the author final version “by the end of the day”. It arrived at 4.40pm. CentAUR staff uploaded it

• New University funding scheme for open access monographs now open for applications

• Apply when you are negotiating a contract with the publisher

• No set limit for requests but funds are limited

• Publishers are developing policies on sharing on scholarly collaboration networks (SCNs) to cope with changes in author practices

• Check each publisher’s policy before posting to ResearchGate, Academia.edu etc.
