,,,,,,,,,,,

Thanks to the commitment of the Oxford City Schools Education Foundation and the

Oxford City Schools Board of Education, every teacher in the Oxford City School System

received $400 for classroom instructional supplies. Due to proration, the state education

budget provided no money again this year for teaching supplies. “The mission of our

organization is to enhance the educational opportunities for all students in Oxford City

Schools. We realize this money will touch every child in every classroom in a positive

way,” stated Stan Nelson, President of the Oxford City Schools Education Foundation.

The audience of faculty, administrators, and staff members responded with a standing

ovation and a resounding applause when the checks totaling, $111,200, were presented

to Dr. Goodwin at the annual teacher institute on August 3.

Oxford City Schools Education Foundation President, Stan Nelson,

presents $55,600 check to Dr. Goodwin

Mr. Bobby Pope, a 1949 alumnus, presents a $25,000 check to the

Oxford City Schools Education Foundation

Mr. Bobby Pope, a 1949 graduate of Oxford High School (then Calhoun County High

School), made a significant contribution to the Oxford City Schools Education

Foundation. Wishing to give back to the school that afforded him many opportunities

and laid the foundation for his very successful banking career, Mr. Pope stated, “My

heart is still in Oxford, and I am very proud of the schools and this city. I want to make

a positive difference in the lives of these students.”

Friends and Partners of the Foundation:

The Oxford City Schools Education Foundation began its operations in the fall of

2008 with a pledge to continue the strong tradition of educational excellence and

outstanding student achievement. Your overwhelming support has certainly

displayed the civic pride that makes this community a special place!

Oxford has strong schools and dedicated teachers! We realize that Oxford’s more

than 4,000 students benefit from programs that enrich the curriculum and prepare

them for the 21st Century workplace. Today, because of the support of so many

generous donors and volunteers, the Foundation has contributed over $150,000 to

Oxford City Schools for outdoor learning laboratories, state-of-the art technology,

and instructional supplies for teachers.

As you know, state funding has been dramatically reduced and the economic

environment remains uncertain. Therefore, we must be more diligent in our

commitment to mobilize community support and resources for the academic needs of

our students. We must be willing to provide financial support that goes beyond the

scope and means of the school system.

We are asking for your help. You have an opportunity to make a difference in local

education. You have an opportunity to invest in the future of our community by

investing in the education of our young people! You can support the Foundation and

Oxford City Schools in several different ways:

Make a direct contribution Sponsor a fundraising event- “Breakfast with Santa”, “Holiday Tour of Homes”, or the “Edible Evening for Education” Purchase a “Walk of Champions” brick paver Designate the Foundation the beneficiary of life insurance policies Donate appreciated stocks (good tax strategy) Participate in Planned Giving program

Please know that virtually all of your contributions go directly to benefit the

students. Again, we ask for your support for our students in Oxford City Schools. The

board promises to spend each dollar as though our families depend on it. In fact, we

all depend on our schools, because strong schools are the economic engine of a

thriving community. Thank you so much for your support!

Sincerely,

Foundation Board of Directors

Cider Ridge Development was as picturesque as postcard when the neighborhood opened its gates to the public for the Foundation‟s first annual “Holiday Tour of Homes”. Landscaped with a lighted Christmas tree on each lawn, lampposts trimmed with the greenery and bows, and the lovely homes exquisitely adorned with Christmas decorations expressed Christmas greetings to all the patrons. The Oxford City Schools choirs and band serenaded the visitors as the spirit of Christmas cheer was experienced by all.

The ”Edible Evening for Education” was a night where 31 local restaurants had an opportunity to showcase their finest culinary talents. The Oxford High School Sports Arena was transformed into an atmosphere of elegance. It was an evening like none other in Oxford where eating, socializing, and making connections were enjoyed by all. The first annual “Breakfast with Santa” was held on Saturday, December 5th at the Oxford Public Library. The morning was filled with visits from Christmas characters such as Frosty, the Gingerbread man, elves, Rudolph, the Grinch, and of course Mr. and Mrs. Claus. The children and parents visited with the characters as they enjoyed pancakes, bacon, fruit, milk, and coffee. Pictures with Santa were available. Oxford High School celebrates, in 2010, a century of providing the highest quality

education for the citizens of Oxford. This 100 years culminates with the opening of a

beautiful new building featuring a magnificent columned entrance portico with the focal

point in front being an etched monument to Oxford High School. Surrounding the

monument is the “Walk of Champions” made of engraved brick pavers. The “Walk of

Champions” will be a source of pride for Oxford and Yellow Jacket fans everywhere.

Graduates, staff, families, businesses, and friends—purchase a brick paver and pledge

your allegiance to OHS by being a member of the “Walk of Champions.”
