Homebound Connection As a way to strengthen our congregational connection in these days, we will be highlighting a homebound member of our FAB family each week. We invite you to reach out to these friends with a card, call, or email, or some other creative way—whether you know them personally or not. This is a wonderful opportunity for families with children to connect with our homebound members or for our card makers or artists to use their gifts to bless them as well. Thank you in advance for showing your love and support to the people who have not been able to fellowship in person with us for some time.

Updated Preaching Schedule Alicia Porterfield will preach this Sunday, July 5!

Updates on In-Person Worship The church is not a building! The church consists of its people, united in our faith in Jesus and made family in Christ. Which means whether we worship in-person in the Sanctuary or via Live Stream, we are worshiping together. The Spirit unites us, the Spirit speaks to us, the Spirit connects us to each other and to the Father and to the Son as we offer our praises on Sunday mornings. For those attending our 9:00 service for people age 65 and up or attending our 10:45 service for people under 65, please see page 2 for our in-person social distancing procedures. If you’ve traveled to a “hot spot” where the virus is surging, please stay at home and worship on-line at 10:45 as an extra precaution.

“Life on the Vine,” our July Wednesday Evening Bible Study from John 15 We got started on John 15 this week, exploring verses 1-4. Jesus is the vine who sends his life-giving nourishment to us who are the branches, and the Father through the Spirit is the gardener who tends us, prunes us, so that we bear more fruit. Join us Wednesday, July 8, as we start at v5 and explore what it means to abide in Jesus. Our sermons and Bible studies are now on YouTube! Go to youtube.com, and search for Fifth Avenue Baptist Church, Huntington, WV. Remember, the FAB Live tab on our website only shows live content; we are unable to download recorded material on this tab. It’s likely that most of our July Wednesday evening Bible studies will be pre-recorded, so you’ll need to watch via the Facebook Live tab at the bottom left hand corner of our homepage. Facebook users can always access live and pre-corded content on our Facebook Live page. Recordings of sermons and Bible studies will continue to be posted under the “Sermons” tab, but technical restraints mean it takes a while for us to get them posted. If you have any questions, please con-tact Eric Porterfield ([email protected]).

Virtual VBS is underway! We are excited for you child to take a trip with the “Knights of North Castle” and learn a story from “The King’s Book” each week. Session videos will be posted on the VBS Facebook page every Monday. If you haven’t picked up your supplies for session 1 and 2, you can do so in Smith Hall anytime during church office hours, 9-2:30. If you’d like to join in on Zoom to do the video as a group we will “meet” at 4:00 on Wednesdays. Zoom information will be sent via Facebook group and Remind app.

All youth are invited to join us on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 for Fun, Fellowship, & Bible Study on the FAB play-ground. We’ll gather, socially distanced, around the campfire.

Our Christian Love and Sympathy To Mary Madsen and family in the death of her sister, Kathryn McCloud, who passed away June 28.

Help Wanted in August Our Sunday Morning Bible Study theme for August is "Humor in the Bible." We need your funny stories, jokes or memories (especially church/faith/family related) to share as part our Sunday Morning Bible Study. This could be written or on video. If you can help or want to nominate your favorite FAB fun-ny person to part ic ipate , contact Al ic ia ([email protected]). August 9 A Cheerful Heart: Proverbs 15:13-15; 16:23-24; 17:22; August 16 Laughter and Sorrow: Ecclesiastes 7:1-6 August 23 Mourning into Joy: Psalm 30; 126 August 30 God Has Brought Me Laughter: Genesis 17:15-17; 18:9-15; 21:1-8.

Care Team members: Thank you for connecting with our homebound members and those who are in special need of an extra boost or touch during these days. A phone call, a card, an email or text can make all the difference in how someone’s day goes. You may also want to try a porch drop off where you simply leave a special treat or package or flowers at the person’s front door and let them know it is there to be picked up. This safer “no touch” approach helps us stay connected in this season.
