Who We Are & Our Philosophy...

Mission Statement

The CBC Kids Day Out program is a ministry of Community Bible Church. Our ministry strives to support our CBC congregaon as well as our surrounding community. While in our care, your child will be provided a loving Chrisan environment that encourages them to develop physically, socially, emoonally and spiritually in an atmosphere of love, acceptance, and forgiveness based on God's love as a model for each of us. The goal of our program is to assist children in developing social and emoonal competence and cognive skills in a Chrisan-value oriented environment. Philosophy

We believe that young children are acve learners; therefore, we encourage each child to discover the world through hands-on, interacve learning and the richness of open-ended play. This creates a solid foundaon for a child’s formal educaon and a love of learning in the years to come. In an atmosphere of love and acceptance children develop posive self-esteem and confidence in their place in the group. Families are supported by our philosophy of sharing God's love, resulng in a community where we work together to create a wonderful place for children to thrive. Christian Education

Kids Day Out seeks to integrate a spiritual and Chrisan dimension in all areas of learning. Prayers are given before snacks and meals and biblical themes are prevalent in teaching. All children listen to daily Bible stories and songs. Preschool children begin their day in the classroom with a daily prayer circle. Toddlers, Early Learners, Preschoolers and Pre-K children parcipate in daily Chapel during which they are taught Old and New Testament Bible stories, prayer, and Bible songs. Pre-K children are also encouraged to memorize a monthly Bible verse.

Our Programs... The CBC Kids Day Out program is unique in that it operates four early childhood programs: Tiny Tots, Early Learners, Preschool, and Pre-K. We believe that well planned classroom environments are paramount to the success of a child’s growth and development. Our curriculum is designed by our own teachers with a balanced focus on spiritual

development, readiness skills, pre-wring skills, social skills, and self-help skills. This allows us to meet the unique needs and interest of each child. All acvies are designed to be age-appropriate and developmentally challenging. Our day consists of teacher-guided and child-iniated indoor and outdoor acvies. Your child will have the opportunity to build relaonships and develop appropriate academic and problem solving skills. STUDENT DEVELOPMENT AND PROGRESS

The CBC Kids Day Out program is commied to assisng each child in the process of development and learning. It is our philosophy that each child is designed by God and has gis and aributes all their own. We know that every child is unique and development is an individual maer. The KDO program strongly believes that children do not develop at the same rate and age does not guarantee a certain level of performance or behavioral maturity. Chronological age is our guide for placement, but we encourage parents to consider the child's developmental age when considering

advancement. KDO curriculum is created with the intenon of nurturing each child to learn and grow successfully. CLASSES

Tiny Tots Our Tiny Tots program is designed for infants through children twenty-three months of age and offers our youngest children a loving, nurturing, Chrisan environment full of smulang acvies. All of the children in our Tiny Tots

program are exposed to a wide variety of experiences each day including a sensory-rich classroom environment, parcipaon in daily walks, movement opportunies, sign language and more. Classrooms are set up in Discovery Zones which include acve, quiet, make-believe and messy-play areas. Children parcipate in music me and listen to a Bible story each day. The Tiny Tots teachers are trained in the specific needs of infants and toddlers. We strive to meet each child’s individual and family needs on a daily basis.

Our Programs….. Early Learners Our Early Learners Program is specially designed for two year old children. Our two year olds enjoy a classroom

environment and acvies which incorporate their need for praccing self-help skills and nurture their aempts at mastering independence. Early Learners are introduced to various concepts including self, family, friends, shapes, textures, animals and more. They are offered a wide variety of sensory and creave experiences which encourage them to form the foundaon needed for spiritual, cognive, social, emoonal, and physical development.

Preschool Serving children who are three years old. Our curriculum provides a guideline for our teachers when planning learning centers which support the children’s need for independence and exploraon. Centers may include: math, table games, housekeeping/role play, block building, wring, science, library, art and sensory play. Our preschoolers

parcipate in daily chapel me where they are taught Old and New Testament Bible stories, prayer and songs. Pre-K This program is for our 4 and 5 year old children. Children explore math concepts and parcipate in science

experiments, cooking acvies and creave art on a regular basis. Language development is nurtured through the sharing of age-appropriate stories, the development of pre-wring skills and other language-play experiences. Children are exposed to leers kinesthecally, visually and verbally. Leers are reinforced through playme acvies, cras, cooking acvies and books read during circle me. Leer names and sounds are introduced to our four year old classes with a “Leer of the Week”. In addion to classroom acvies all children will have daily playground me and aend a daily enrichment class. Our enrichment classes include: Daily Chapel, Music and Movement, Creave Art and Science.

Staff, Conferences, Volunteers & Visitors...

STAFF

The Kids Day Out staff is crucial to the quality of our program. Our staff members come from a variety of educaonal backgrounds and experiences. Each teacher has been chosen carefully for his/her warmth and nurturing skills and dedicaon to providing excellent early childhood programs within a Chrisan seng. All have made a profession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. To provide the safest possible environment, our staff has had a detailed interview and screening process, been approved by the state through a background analysis that cross references state and federal criminal records as well as child abuse reporng records to insure that each employee has a back ground that is clear, and has fulfilled State CPR and First Aid requirements. All teachers and staff parcipate in ongoing early childhood training in order toremain alert to the ever-changing needs of today’s families.

PARENT/TEACHER COMMUNICATION

It is recommended that if you need to get in touch with your child’s teacher the best way is to contact the KDO office @ 210-477-5174. Our teachers do have cell phones but they are prohibited to use them while caring for children per state licensing.

PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES

Conferences are held to help parents beer understand their child’s involvement in our program and to discussconcerns a parent or teacher may have. It is best NOT to discuss problems concerning your child in front of him or her. We do not allow children to aend conferences. Conferences are held during pre-arranged mes and not at the beginning or end of the day. The teacher’s first responsibility is to her class. If a child who has been admied to KDO and is unable to benefit from our program, the Director may hold a conference with the parents and require that other arrangements are made for the child( including the possibility of being dropped from our program.) We welcome parent-teacher conferences any me during the year. If you would like to schedule a conference with your child’s teacher, please let her know and she will schedule a me to meet with you.

CLASSROOM VOLUNTEERS AND VISITORS

Parent volunteers are vital to the success of our Kids Day Out program. The Kids Day Out program has an open door policy. Parents are welcomed and encouraged to drop in for informal visits and/or to observe class acvies with or without invitaons. We do ask you check with the office before going into a classroom. It is the responsibility of each staff member to make sure any visitor has checked in with the office. Persons not listed on the “Pick-Up Permission” form, will not be allowed to visit your child. Since we cannot aest to the background of anyone that has not gone through our screening process we cannot allow parents to spend extended periods of me in our facility without requiring them to fulfill certain screening and training requirements set by State Law and our policies.

Drop-off & Release of Children...

DROP-OFF OF CHILDREN

Parents must personally bring their children to the classroom and sign them in each day. Parents should enter the building at the front entrance to the Administrave and Educaon Building. For the safety of the children, students are to be brought directly to the classroom and le in the care of the teacher or teacher's assistant. All children must be signed in and out each day on the class sign in sheet. Teachers use the me before class to prepare to greet the students. Therefore, please do not bring your child/children in the school before 9:00 am. It is important that you arrive on me because the children arriving late miss instrucon, chapel and/or free play. Please park in designated parking places for the safety of the children, and never leave any child unaended in a parked car. Also, the handicapped parking spots can only be used by those who have a handicapped scker. Please do not park in the fire lanes as you may be cketed. RELEASE OF CHILDREN

All children must be signed out each day when they are picked up. Wrien authorizaon from a parent/guardian is needed for those individuals who are permied to pick up your child. The names of these individuals should be

provided to the KDO office at the me of registraon. Children can be dismissed ONLY to those persons whose names appear on the registraon form. Changes in this form must be given in wring by the parent to the KDO Office.

Children cannot be released to siblings younger than 18 years of age. Under no circumstances will an adult be permied to pick up a child without authorizaon. In an emergency , a parent/guardian may call the school office and give authorizaon over the phone. However, this is strongly discouraged. CBC Kids Day Out has no legal authority to refuse either parent the right to have custody of their child unless this is COURT ORDERED and the KDO OFFICE HAS A COPY OF THE JUDGEMENT. It is requested that non-custodial parents arrange visitaon pick-up/return around non-school hours. The Kids Day Out program ends at 2:00 PM each day. We ask that parents pick up their children promptly. If a child is le at school beyond 2:10 PM, he/she will be taken to the school office and a late fee of $5.00 per five minute segment will be assessed and due immediately. (Time is based on www.me.gov.)

Enrollment, Registraon & Supply Fees... The Kids Day Out offers classes for children based on their age as of September 1, as well as, their developmental needs. Excepons to this policy are rare and at the discreon of the KDO Director based on her assessment of each child’s developmental needs and the program’s ability to accommodate those needs. All enrollment forms must be filled out completely and returned to the KDO office before any child will be admied to the program. Registraon takes place each spring for the next school year. All families pay annual supply and

registraon fees at the me of registraon for each child. Classes are filled on a first come - first served basis according to the date that the non-refundable registraon and yearly supply fees are paid. Unless these fees are included with the enrollment forms, we cannot hold a place for your child. All supply and registraon fees are nonrefundable. Registraon is ongoing throughout the year based on space availability. Beginning in January of each school year, supply fees may be prorated by the Director for newly enrolled students. Registraon fees are not subject to prorang. If classes are filled when a parent inquires about enrollment, the child's name will be placed on the age-appropriate waing list in order in which the call is received. As vacancies occur during the year, they will be filled from the waing list. The next person on the waing list will be called as soon as space is available and given an opportunity to nofy us of their interest in enrolling before we offer the space to someone else. The waing list applies only to the current School year. Classes will be added, dropped or consolidated by the Director based on available space as needed.

Tuion & Fundraising...

TUITION

The Kids Day Out program is a non-profit ministry of CBC. As such, it depends on fees, tuion and fundraising to

operate. Tuion cost is established yearly and is based on the age of the child and number of days a child aends. All tuion payments are due on the first of each month. Any tuion not received by the end of the first full week of the month will generate a phone call and a leer to the child’s parent. Any payment not received by the end of the second full week of the month will result in a second noficaon to the child’s parent leng them know their child will not be allowed to return to the program beginning the third full week of the month unl the tuion has been received. Tuion is based on the yearly calendar and prorated; therefore, no adjustments are made for holidays. Because tuion is a monthly fee and is built into the budget each year, no refunds are given for illness or family vacaons. It is very important that tuion is paid on me. In the event that tuion payments are not paid by the tenth day of the month, a $10.00 late fee will be assessed and tuion must be paid immediately. Aer the tenth day of the month, an addional $2 late fee will be assessed for each day tuion payments are overdue. Tuion paid by a check returned for insufficient funds must be paid in cash, along with a $25.00 NSF fee plus accrued late fees. Accounts set up online with automac

tuion payments will be charged $25.00 for a declined card because of insufficient funds or an expired card. We accept four methods of payment for KDO Tuion: Cash, direct withdrawal from a bank account, credit or debit card, or a personal check. KDO reserves the right to make adjustments in tuion as may be required by increased/decreased enrollment, or

increased operaonal expenses. Parents will be given a wrien 30-day advance noce of any tuion changes. Please make checks payable to: Community Bible Church Kids Day Out . Checks should be turned in to the KDO Office by a parent. No tuion should be sent with children in bags/backpacks or given to KDO staff.

FUNDRAISING

Throughout the year there will be opportunies to parcipate in fundraising for the Kids Day Out program. Money raised through fundraising will be used in a variety of ways including adding equipment to the classrooms and/or playgrounds, paying for teacher training and bringing resource visitors to the program. We strongly encourage all families to support the Kids Day Out program by parcipang in fundraising opportunies. Parent volunteers are

crucial to the success of our fundraisers. If you are able to help with fundraising please contact the KDO office.

Birthdays and Animals...

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS

Birthdays are important and excing for young children. Parents are welcome to make arrangements with their child’s teacher to send a special snack to school in celebraon of their child’s birthday. No birthday pares can be held during school hours and invitaons to birthday pares will only be sent home by the classroom teacher if all children in the class are invited. ANIMALS AT SCHOOL

CLASSROOM PETS In the preschool classes, some teachers may include a class pet as part of their classroom environment. Parents will be nofied by the teacher if a class pet is added to the classroom during the school year. Most pets will need to be taken home over weekends and holiday breaks. If you are interested in taking your child’s class pet home for a visit during one of these mes, please nofy the teacher. Most pets will be non-allergenic animals such as fish, snails, or hermit crabs. If your child has any allergies to any kind of pet or pet supplies please let the classroom teacher know so she can ensure your child’s safety and comfort while at school. FAMILY PETS There may be an occasion when the children are invited to bring a pet to show the class. For the health and safety of all children aending our programs this is the only me family pets can be allowed to be brought into the program. A permission slip will be sent home and proof of pet’s vaccinaons need to be turned in to that teacher.

Each child enrolled or admied to the Kids Day Out program is required by state regulaons to have on file, a health statement, which includes a record of up-to-date immunizaons and an annual signed statement from their doctor saying they are in good physical health. These forms are required (including immunizaons required for the child’s age) by the date of admission to the Kids Day Out program. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to ensure that children receive immunizaons as needed and provide the KDO office with updated shot records as soon as immunizaons are received. Children without updated shot records or a signed health statement will not be allowed to aend the Kids Day Out program. TUBERCULIN (TB) TESTING REQUIREMENTS

TB tesng is not required in Bexar County. We do recommend, however, that for the safety of all staff and children, parents have their child tested for tuberculosis. If you choose to have your child tested we would appreciate a copy of the test results be turned into the office. At a later me, we may choose to require TB tesng for all childrenenrolled in the Kids Day Out program. HEARING AND VISION REQUIREMENTS

The Special Senses and Communicaon Disorders Act, Texas Health and Safety Code, Chapter 36, requires a screening or a professional examinaon for possible vision and hearing problems for children who are enrolled in a child-care center that are first me enrollees and who are four years of age or older by September 1 of each year. These screenings must be completed within 120 calendar days from enrollment. Kids Day Out must be provided with the individual vision or hearing screening results, or a signed statement from the parent that the screening records are on file at the school the child currently aends. The statement must be dated (screening must be within the last year) and include the name, address, and telephone number of the other program or school.

Water & Play Acvies, Field Trips & Cooking...

OUTDOOR PLAY & WATER ACTIVITES

We believe the outdoor environment is an extension of the classroom. We strive to provide the children with engaging and creave play opportunies while they enjoy our playgrounds. Children parcipate in creave art, large and fine motor acvies, dramac play and sensory play during their me outdoors. We are not able to go outdoors if the

temperature/chill factor is below 35 degrees or the temperature/heat index is over 100 degrees. Children should be brought to school in clothing that will enable them to play outside on the outdoor classroom/playground. On occasion the children may take part in water acvies. These acvies may include sprinkler play and wading pool play. Water play will take place on safe, non-slippery surfaces, water equipment will be sanized appropriately and

children will be well supervised during water play acvies. If you do not wish for your child to take part in water acvies please nofy the office of your request in wring. COOKING

Children may parcipate in cooking acvies in the classroom on occasion. Please be sure you nofy your child’s teacher of any allergies or special food requirements that he/she has.

FIELD TRIPS

Preschool children may parcipate in field trips throughout the year. Parents will be nofied at least 48 hours in

advance of any scheduled field trip. Field trips are taken with parent chaperones that assist with and transport the children. Parent volunteers are crucial to keeping our children safe on field trips. Without an adequate number of parent volunteers field trips will be cancelled. All children are required to wear a Kids Day Out T-shirt for idenficaon on all field trips. Shirts are available for purchase from the KDO Office. If a child arrives on a field trip day without his/her shirt, the parent must purchase a new one from the KDO office. Field Trip Drivers must: · Provide the office with a current Driver’s License and proof of insurance that can be copied and kept in the office files. · Grant permission to the office to run a criminal background check. · Carry a mobile phone and provide the school office and classroom teacher with the telephone number of that phone where he/she can be reached. · Have a working fire exnguisher and First Aid Kit in the vehicle which is used to transport the children. All car seat laws will be enforced when children are traveling for KDO field trips. It is the responsibility of each parent to secure his/her child’s car seat in the vehicle in which they will be transported the morning of the field trip.

Poy Time, Nap Time & Clothing….

POTTY & BATHROOM POLICIES

A child entering a 3 or 4 year-old class must be completely poy trained and should be independent in bathroom without the use of pull-ups. We do not have diaper changing equipment in these classrooms and, therefore, are unable to change diapers. Pull-ups are only allowed in our Toddler & 2 year old classrooms. Toddlers & 2 year olds being toilet trained need a sufficient supply of training pants as well as outerwear. NAP/REST TIMES

All children will either rest or nap each day. Infants and non– walkers will nap in cribs which are provided by the school. All children 17 months through two years old nap daily on nap mats. Nap mats must be provided by the parent . Due to storage issues; if you wish for your child to have a pillow and/or blanket for nap mes these items must be aached to the nap mat. Small “lovies” are welcome but should go home daily. All nap mats are to be brought to KDO on the first day your child aends each week and are to be taken home at the end of each week (or as needed) to be washed. Three and four year olds will have a “Rest and Read” me each day and will need a plasc “Kinder Mat” for that me. CLOTHING

Kids Day Out is an excing and acve place for young children to grow and learn. Your child’s day will consist of playground acvies and creave classroom experiences. Young children tend to get messy! Children should be brought to school in comfortable, washable play clothes. A change of clothes (including underwear and socks) is to be le at Kids Day Out at all mes. Please place clothes in a zipper-topped bag, clearly label it with your child’s name and give it to your child’s teacher to keep in the classroom. Please send your child with a sweater, jacket, or coat on cool mornings. Tiny Tots will need at least one change of clothes, and a sufficient supply of disposable diapers for the day. All clothes and diapers should be labeled with the child’s name. Young children are very acve and sll learning to maneuver in their environment. They need good, sturdy footwear to enable them to run and play without fear of tripping or falling. Close-toed shoes are to be worn for all walking children. Sandals that are not secured to the foot are not to be worn to Kids Day Out.

Discipline…

Discipline

At CBC Kids Day Out we strive to show God’s loving kindness and to be Christ-like examples to each child every day. We use a posive discipline approach that fosters self-control. Children will learn to make choices and begin to understand the natural or logical consequence of choices. There are many posive discipline strategies that we use based on the age and personality of each individual child. Through posive reinforcement, we teach listening skills, paence, orderliness, taking turns, sharing, politeness, proper manners and respect for others. When conflicts arise, we teach the children to express their feelings and resolve issues through construcve words. We encourage the children to say, “Excuse me,” “I am sorry,” and “I forgive you,” and to learn how their words and behavior can affect others. We do not believe that corporal punishment is an acceptable method of dealing with the children in our program. Redirecon and verbal communicaon are some methods of discipline our staff may use. Your child will be treated with courtesy and respect. In the event that your child’s behavior endangers others, he/she will be separated from the rest of the group for a sensible period of me. Giving posive verbal rewards, which reinforce a child's good decisions and behavior, encourages acceptable behavior. Our staff places great emphasis on the need for children to express their frustraons verbally rather than physically. Those who have problems cooperang will be asked to stop and the teacher or assistant will explain the unacceptable behavior that the child is displaying. The teacher or assistant, along with the child, will discuss other acceptable behaviors that could be used in that parcular situaon in the future. The connuaon of the unacceptable behavior may result in the child being removed to a “safe place” where they will have the opportunity to regain control of their emoons and calmly resolve the situaon before they return to the group. If behavioral problems connue, the parent may be asked to aend a conference with the teacher and/or Director in order to discuss alternave means of movang the child. To maintain safety and orderliness any child who is a persistent discipline problem or who is consistently unable to conform because of behavioral problems will be dropped from the KDO program. In all cases, parents will be nofied prior to any changes being made in regard to their child. BITING IS A VERY SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS OCCURRENCE. Kids Day Out teacher(s) and staff will at all mes try to work with the child and the family to stop bing incidents if they occur. If bing connues, a child may be subject to dismissal from the program.

Parent/School Agreement...

PARENT/SCHOOL AGREEMENT

Parents are expected to support and uphold the Kids Day Out program policies. If at any me misunderstandings develop between the program and the home, it becomes the obligaon of both enes to resolve those misunderstandings. All suggesons and comments from parents will be fully examined, and are welcomed and encouraged for the overall strengthening of the Kids Day Out program. Parents are encouraged to approach the director, supervisory school personnel or their child’s classroom teacher with any quesons or concerns. Parents are welcome to make an appointment with the director to review and discuss program policies and procedures. Please stop in or call the school office to make an appointment. CBC Kids Day Out agrees to work closely with parents in the educaon and care of their child(ren). In cooperaon with the program, parents are expected to aend conferences and acvely support other planned acvies, knowing that parental parcipaon is crical to the health and well-being of the child and the Kids Day Out program. Any parent who openly demonstrates to KDO staff, children or other parents a lack of support for CBC Kids Day Out policies is undermining the program’s posive intent and thereby hindering its effecveness. A child’s parcipaon in the Kids Day Out programs may be terminated if the parent/guardian fails to honor the program policies and/or regulaons or exhibits a lack of support and/or respect for Kids Day Out staff. Terminaon of a child’s enrollment in the program may occur if the director determines that the program is unable to meet the needs of the child, that it is not in the best interest of the program or other children enrolled in the school to have the child in aendance or if the family’s tuion account becomes delinquent. The Kids Day Out Director or CBC Early Childhood Director and the Next Gen Pastor will have the sole right and responsibility to determine the need for the terminaon of any child’s enrollment in the Kids Day Out program. Parents will be provided with a copy of the Kids Day Out Parent Handbook prior to the beginning of the school year or, in the event school is in session, at the me of enrollment. Parents must sign that they have read and understand all policies. If any policies or procedures are changed, the parents/guardians will be provided with a wrien noce of this change and will be asked to sign another statement that they have read and understand the changes that have been made.

Infant Safe Sleep Child Care Policy

Infant Safe Sleep Child Care Policy

All staff, substute staff at CBC KDO will follow the safe sleep recommendaons of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Consumer Products Safety Commission for infants to reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death (SIDS). SIDS is the sudden death of an infant under 1 year of age, which remains unexplained aer a through invesgaon.

· Infants will always be put to sleep on their backs. · Infants will be placed on a firm maress, with a ght fied sheet, in a crib that meets CPSC federal

requirements. · No toys, so objects, stuffed animals, pillows, bumper pads, blankets, quilts, sheepskins or loose

bedding will be in the crib or draped over the crib. · Devices such as wedges or infant posioners will not be used. · Sleeping areas will be venlated and at a temperature that is comfortable for a lightly clothed adult. · If extra warmth is needed, sleep sacks will be used as an alternave to blankets. · Only one infant will be placed in a crib to sleep. · No crib toys, mobiles, or musical/light crib aachments will be used on the crib. · Infants may use a pacifier during sleep. It may not be aached to a stuffed animal or to the infant’s

clothing by a string, cord, or other aaching mechanism that might be a strangulaon risk. · If an infant falls asleep any place other than a crib (i.e. bouncy chair, swing, or arrives asleep in a car

seat) the infant will be moved to a crib immediately. · Our childcare program is smoke free and smoking is not allowed in Texas child care operaons. · Sleeping infants will be acvely observed by sight and sound. · When infants are able to roll back and forth from front to back, the infant will be placed on their back

for sleep and allowed to assume a preferred sleep posion. · Awake infants will have supervised “tummy me” several mes daily. This will help strengthen their

muscles and develop normally. Parents may review safe sleep and reducing the risk of SIDS at hp://www.healthychildren.org/English/ages-stages/baby/sleep/Pages/A-Parents-Guide-to-Safe-Sleep.aspx
