For years vegetable growing has been associated with
Dalat.

The climate is suited to growing “Western” style vegetables.

Dr. Nguyen Ba Hung is a key player in developing Dalat’s
vegetable industry.
ORGANIKORGANIK
In 1997 he researched sustainable, organic vegetable production.
ORGANIKORGANIK
He concluded, “Farmers need
improved seedling varieties.”
ORGANIKORGANIK
So, he set up nurseries.
ORGANIKORGANIK
Now farmers could buy
new tomato, cabbage,
strawberry and potato seedlings.
ORGANIKORGANIK
Then foreign growers ordered wasabi, cabbage
and spinach seedlings.
ORGANIKORGANIK
Later this nursery called “Hung Thien”
began growing, processing and
exporting romaine lettuce.
ORGANIKORGANIK
Thirteen containers of
Romaine Hearts were shipped to Sogo, in Taiwan.

Hung Thien now had …
• a nursery • contracted growing land
• but no processing facility
So, in late 2004, a small but modern processing centre was
built.

It included:

a sanitized processing area
a vacuum cooling unit capable of handling 5 T of product / day
and a 6 tonne cold storage room
a receiving area
The new facility enabled “Hung Thien”, now known as, ORGANIK, to develop a
presence in the domestic market.

By late 2004 ORGANIK was supplying:

Saigon’s expatriate community via a “Home Delivery Service”.
Vietnam’s 5 star hotels from its 85 item product range.

The International Marketing
Organization (IMO) was asked to provide
ORGANIK with a “quality” process.

IMO inspectors, from outside Vietnam,
visited ORGANIK “ in June, 2005.

In August of 2005 ORGANIK was awarded a “EUREPGAP Certificate.”
ORGANIKORGANIK
This was the first EUREPGAP Certificate issued to a growing/processing company in Vietnam.

ORGANIK has recently bought 4 hectares of growing land.
ORGANIKORGANIK
The farm will:
•become a learning centre where students can see modern agricultural practices in action.
•act as a model for other farmers in Dalat.
• help ORGANIK respond to the increasing demand for high value, organic vegetables.

The rough places are being made flat.

There is the Director, Dr. Hung, with a PhD in plant genetics and breeding improvement from France.
There is also his wife, the Financial and Processing Manager, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Phuong.

As well as, the Home Delivery Manager, Mrs. Arlene Fast.
