Catechists are urged to complete the renewal requirementsbefore your certification expires. You may NOT retake the Basic
Catechetical Certification Course to count for renewal hours.The options for renewing your catechetical certification consists
in taking:
1. 30 hours in diocesan sponsored or approved conferences,workshops, and congresses that are designed for renewal
credit. The areas of these programs will be Scripture, Doctrine,Morality, Sacraments, Liturgy, Psychological Development,
Church History, Catechetics or Administration Skills.
A combined total of 5 hours (in the three year period) will begranted for spiritual renewal experiences such as Cursillo, Lifein the Spirit seminars, Marriage Encounter, Catholic Bible study
groups, etc.
2. Completing (1) approved 30 hour course or (2) 15-hourcourses in Religious Studies or Religious Education at aCatholic college or University, or through the San Diego
Diocesan Institute. If you are interested in receiving informationabout the Institute courses, please call 858-490-8212 or visit:

3. Completing a specialization course in a given area such asPreschool, Methods for Elementary Grade Catechesis, SpecialReligious Education, Youth Ministry, Evangelization, Adult Faith
Formation, RCIA, etc.
It is the responsibility of the catechist to advise the Parish DCMor Coordinator of all the completed renewal work. The DCM or
Coordinator will notify the Office for Evangelization andCatechetical Ministry in June of each year of all the catechists
whose certification should be renewed.
Catechists who are not currently teaching, but wish to maintaintheir certification, should forward all documentation of completed
coursework for renewal to the Office for Evangelization andCatechetical Ministry by May 1st of each year.
HOW TO RENEW YOURCALIFORNIA CATECHIST
CERTIFICATION?Se les insta a los Catequistas que completen sus créditos de
renovación antes de que su certificación caduque. No sepermite retomar el Curso Básico de Formación para
satisfacer las horas de renovación. La certificación sepuede renovar de las siguientes maneras:
1. Completando 30 horas de conferencias aprobadas o
patrocinadas por la diócesis, talleres, conferencias ycongresos que estén designados para la renovación decréditos. Las áreas de estos programas son: SagradaEscritura, Doctrina, Moralidad, Sacramentos, Liturgia,
Desarrollo Psicológico, Historia de la Iglesia, Catequesis oAptitudes Administrativas.
Un total de 5 horas combinadas (en un periodo de tres años)
se otorgan por experiencias de renovación espiritual, talescomo Cursillos, Retiros, Seminarios de Vida en el Espíritu,
Encuentros Matrimoniales, grupos de estudio de BibliaCatólicos etc.
2. Completando (1) curso de 30 horas o (2) cursos de 15
horas en Estudios Religiosos o Educación Religiosa en uncolegio o Universidad Católica, o a través del Instituto

3. Completando un curso de especialización en alguna área

Ministerio Catequético (DMC) o Coordinador sobre el trabajode renovación adquirido. El DMC/Coordinador notificará a laOficina para el Ministerio de Evangelización y Catequesis en

Los catequistas que no estén impartiendo clases

The Tessera in Catechetical Ministry is designed to promote ongoing spiritual and intellectual formationfor those who have completed their Basic California Catechist Certification. Its requirements are in tune
with the catechetical formation guidelines of the California Catholic Conference. Completion of the tessera marks the half-way point toward fulfillment of requirements for the diocesan
Certificate in Catechetical Ministry.
La Tessera en Ministerio Catequético existe para promover la continua formación espiritual eintelectual de los que han cumplido su Certificado Básico de Catequista. Estos requisitos están en
