“OPWDD will dedicate $10 million of this new funding to serve the residential needs of individuals considered Priority Two or Three who are now living at home with a family caregiver. Local stakeholder groups will be established to work with OPWDD’s regional offices to help guide the expenditure of these funds.”
“How can we expand housing options and help individuals become involved in the life of the community, with the support of the public?”
“people want and need choices in how and where they live. Institutions were once the only option, but today the inclusion of people with developmental disabilities in the community is a real and achievable goal for many. What makes it practical is a multifaceted housing strategy that can meet the needs of someone who may need a lower level of ongoing support as well as someone requiring a traditional residential placement.”
TRANSFORMATION RECOMMENDATION ▪ New funding for people living at home
▪ Review types of setting
▪ Person centered housing planning
▪ Allocate $15MM to develop supportive apartments
▪ Flexibility of support
▪ Education of stakeholders
