Mike Francesa allows that women can be CEOs andperhaps even the president. However, the WFAN icon will not concede that a woman has the capabilityto be a head coach in the NBA.

Digging in further after his controversial commentslast week, Francesa used his opening monologue andthen five friendly callers to assert that women coach­ing professional basketball players is an impossibility.Where others may see misogyny, Francesa believes he sees reality, doubling down on claims that a femalecoach would be eaten alive by male NBA players.

“There’s no saying that everybody has to do ev­ery single job. Some are better for some people.That’s all,” Francesa said Monday. “That’s not beingchauvinist. That’s not being Stone Aged. That’s justbeing reasonable. … It is difficult for men to runthese rooms.”

Francesa cited the fact that there are zero womencoaching men at the collegiate level, extrapolating from there that a woman who would rise up the ranksat the professional level would not have the résumé needed to demand players’ respect. He pointed at thelatest Knicks drama, in which Carmelo Anthony questioned the adjustments coach Jeff Hornacek has made, and said that if Hornacek can’t be blindly ac­cepted by players, neither can a woman.

“That would be a very tall order for a woman.That’s not an unreasonable statement,” Francesa said.“… If it ever happened, I don’t think it would be any­thing more than a publicity stunt”
