COURSE DESCRIPTION: Introduction to Musical Theatre is a general education

course intended to introduce musical theatre as a serious art form capable of altering

social discourse. Beginning with developing an understanding of basic musical theatreterminology, the course will proceed to examine musical theatre development as it

 parallels the quixotic historical landscape. The course is designed to allow the general

student to experience and understand the art of the musical theatre.

STUDENT LEARNING OBJECTIVES:1. To acquire, and utilie, a basic vocabulary of musical theatre terminology.

!. To develop a wor"ing "nowledge of the precedents, conventions, styles and people which constitute the history of musical theatre.

#. To identify the influence of musical theatre in contemporary media.

$. To hone analytical s"ills through in%depth investigations of specific musicals.&. Identify the various musical theatre practices available on the global stage.

'. Interpret how musical theatre has influenced (merica)s political, and social,
