I stopped him calmed him and toldhim people were helping at the exit and to get back in line , stop pushingand follow the person in front of h im . Abou t the 16th floor we put theScott Pack in the corner in case we neede d it later . Abo ut the 19th or 20thfloor we passed Sgt. Prospero and I informed him that we staged a Scott AirPack about 2 or 3 floors below and to take it just in case he needed it. Westopped on approximately the 24th floor because a firefighter needed oxygenand we took a breather. As our team attended to the Firefighter I securedcold water from a ven din g ma ch ine for our t eam. We entered the stair welland started up th e stairs when the bui ldin g started to shake violently andwe heard a loud roar. PO Hall and I stood in the doorway for protectionfrom falling debris. The stair well fill ed up with smoke. A Firefighterrunning down the stairs said another plane just hit the building. There wasalot of falling debris and the floor filled up with thick black smoke. MoreFirefighters came running down the stairs screaming get out of thebuilding. We were not sure if we were trappe d and decided to exit thebuilding. We went down a few floors and encountered a large man. He wasscreaming "I can't walk help me" I grabbed his arm to help him

so I asked PO Lucas to help me and he took his other arm.

I turned r ight and exit ed on WestStreet. The building wa s covered wit h about a foot of ash and th ere was a

Chief Morris and Inspector Fields w it h fresh air from my Scott Air Pack. Ithen stopped on the corner of Harrison St. and assisted PO Miller withInspector Fields. After we got help for PO Miller from EMS Inspector Fieldsinstructed me to find him a phone because his cell phone did not work. Iasked a worker at Manh attan Community College if we could use his phone. Hesaid yes and showed me where it was. When I exited the College I asked himif we coul.d use his gated parking lot for our Command Center. He said yesand that we could use the Gym upstairs also. I informed Inspector Fieldsand after his phone call we reassembled with other PO'S and we were told tomove more north because of a gas leak. We moved up Canal St. and stayedthere until we were told it was safe to return to Ma n h atta n CommunityCollege. LT. Stafford set up a Path truck in front of the college to refillScott Air Packs. I assisted by collecti ng all the Scott Air Packs and emptytanks I could find in the damaged vehicles on West St. After retrievingseveral Scott Air Packs I returned to Manha ttan Commun ity College andwaited for further orders.
