The catalogue entry which included entries from several noted North West Texel Breeders Club members attracted buyers from throughout the North West with all sheep to a strong trade with purchasers keen to secure additional stock and new bloodlines. The pre-sale show was kindly judged by Mr David McClure, Flookburgh who awarded the first prize and champion rosette to a Gimmer Shearling from PK & R Woof, Storth End Farm, she was scanned carrying twins to Anglezark Uno and sold for a final bid of 600gns. The second prize gimmer shearling from Procters Farms Ltd scanned with twins to Scrogtonhead U.Stoater and sold for 300gns which was also given for the 3 rd prize shearling from DH Lucas & FA Nairey, again carrying twins to Brijon Vaidi. The sale topped at 630gns for a Stainton Gimmer (PK & R Woof) carrying twins again in lamb to Anglezark Uno. Pure bred Texels also enjoyed a buoyant trade with shearlings carrying twins selling to 310gns from Miss F Bennett and 1 crop ewes with singles 240gns S Cunliffe. A small entry of pedigree Suffolk ewes saw a 3crop carrying twins achieve 300gns and a 1 crop ewe with a single 250gns. Charollais ewes carrying Beltex twins from JD & V Towers & Son, sold to 220gns with others achieving 200gns. INAUGURAL SALE SEES TOP PRICE OF 630GNS FOR IN-LAMB TEXELS AT NWA J36

North West Auctions held the inaugural evening show and sale of pedigree in-lamb Texel sheep on Thursday 7th

January 2015. The catalogue entry which included entries from several noted North West Texel Breeders Club

members attracted buyers from throughout the North West with all sheep to a strong trade with purchasers keen to

secure additional stock and new bloodlines.

The pre-sale show was kindly judged by Mr David McClure, Flookburgh who awarded the first prize and champion

rosette to a Gimmer Shearling from PK & R Woof, Storth End Farm, she was scanned carrying twins to Anglezark

Uno and sold for a final bid of 600gns. The second prize gimmer shearling from Procters Farms Ltd scanned with

twins to Scrogtonhead U.Stoater and sold for 300gns which was also given for the 3rd prize shearling from

DH Lucas & FA Nairey, again carrying twins to Brijon Vaidi.

The sale topped at 630gns for a Stainton Gimmer (PK & R Woof) carrying twins again in lamb to Anglezark Uno.

Pure bred Texels also enjoyed a buoyant trade with shearlings carrying twins selling to 310gns from

Miss F Bennett and 1 crop ewes with singles 240gns S Cunliffe. A small entry of pedigree Suffolk ewes saw a

3crop carrying twins achieve 300gns and a 1 crop ewe with a single 250gns. Charollais ewes carrying Beltex twins

from JD & V Towers & Son, sold to 220gns with others achieving 200gns.

Lancaster Sale Reports Friday 11th January The Store Cattle trade was a lot stronger than anticipated and far dearer than many buyers expected especially in contrast to some reports of store cattle trades nationwide this week. A varied entry of all types of cattle were met by a busy ring side of buyers, eager to purchase all types today, more could have easily been sold to the vendors advantage. Heavy short keep steers easily selling over the twelve hundred pound mark topping at £1300 for a Charolais from TN Pye and Partners of Langthwaite Heights who also topped heifers with a Charolais selling to £1290. All steers forward averaged £1003. Young cattle saw eight month old Hereford steers sell to £700 from Stuart Taylor of Scotforth.

The opening sale of Cast Cows in 2016 had an entry of 90 forward with a surprisingly good trade with a couple of fresh faces around the ring. All types of cows noticeably dearer than before the Christmas break. Best types of beef cows selling in excess of 150 pence per kilo topping at 157.5ppk for a pure bred Limousin from Nether Hall Farms. Black and white heifers sold to 135.5ppk, cows sold to a top of 119.5ppk with good fit cows selling over 100ppk with all black and whites averaging 99ppk.

A good show of 76 Calves forward this morning to start 2016. Black and white calves remain in demand with a number of farmer buyers ringside. Allan and Thomas Ward topped trade at £120, nice rearing sorts £80-£100 with small calves a shade less. Beef calves a little harder to place and prices falling in line with the prime cattle trade. Blue Bulls to £320 from Steven Robinson and Blue heifers to £270 from Wallbank Farms and S & IA Robinson. Native bred calves a better trade than continentals in comparison, with Angus bulls realising £300 from JM & MH France, and heifers £210. Limousins to £335 for nice strong bulls from JH Towers & Son. A couple of Angus Heifer stirks to finish the sale realised £300.

Monday 18th January PRIME HOGGS SELL TO £85 & 193P/KG AT NWA LANCASTER

NWA Lancaster held its weekly sale of Prime Hoggs on Monday 11th January which sold to a strong trade with all sold averaging 169 p/kg

and SQQ 172p/kg. Well finished lambs regularly selling in excess of 180p/kg topping at 193p/kg for first cross Texels for GR Bargh & Co and

£85 for Suffolks from TA Blair. Mules/Mashams sold to £76.50 with Swaledales £72. Lighter weight hoggs sold to 169p/kg providing hoggs

were finished and not store.

North West Auctions held its opening sale of Pigs on Tuesday 12th January and saw an entry of 146 forward in all categories. The sale topped at £106 for best pure Pietrains from PK & R Woof with other prime pigs selling to £100, £97 and generally selling £70 - £80 (75p/kg – 90p/kg) dependant on weight and colour. Less store pigs forward at this sale with weaners selling to £20. This sale saw 146 forward and only 37 pre entered. We strongly advise vendors to pre enter pigs with the office prior to the sale to assist when contacting buyers. North West Auctions will be selling prime pigs on a fortnightly basis now, the next sale will be Tuesday 24th January commencing at 10.30am.

Prime Hoggs sold to a top price of £97 for best pure Texel hoggs from TS & SM Park with others £96, £94 x2. Heavy hoggs sold between £28 - £35 over weight, standards £30 upwards dependant on breed. Hill and horned hoggs better to sell with fed hoggs selling to a premium. A top price of 218p/kg was achieved for Texel x from P Cummings, better fed sorts regularly 180p/kg upwards. A market average of 172p/kg was achieved for all sold for hoggs ranging from 24kg to 70kg.

Cast rams sold to £114 for Texels. All cast sheep sold averaged £58.

Black and whites sold to a good trade for the calves forward with beef calves noticeable less money as seen in many other local markets this week due to current store cattle and prime cattle trade. To add to this, there was a few buyers missing today that were supposed to be in attendance but due to unforeseen reasons were unable to attend. Weaned Bull calves sold to £440 from Brian Wilson of Spout House at two and half months old. Well fleshed bull calves with plenty of growth about them sold in excess of £300 with plenty of beef bull calves in the mid two hundreds. Once again, a young entry of black and whites forward with best types in excess of £100 topping at £130 from ME Wannop & Son of Heaton Hall. Nice young rearing types between £60 and £80. A good number of stirks in the market were eagerly bid for topping at £510 from James Potter of Low Stead for Limousin Steers. Five to six month old Black and White bulls easily selling into the late two hundreds.
