The Fourth Annual Graduate Faculty-Students Conference and Research ForumTheme: Quality and Relevant Research: Backbone of Instruction, Professional Practice, and Community Service

Insight:

The conference and research forum was held in AMS auditorium at Our Lady of Fatima University- Valenzuela Campus in Valenzuela City. The Program starts with the doxology and opening messages of the President, Dr. Caroline Enriquez and The Graduate School Dean, Dr. Heracleo Lagrada. The First presenter was Dr. Ricardo P. Pama, University of the Cordilleras President. He discussed was all about quality and relevant research: backone of instructon, professional practice and community service. He told that we professionals nowadays lower the impact of implying the actions taken to fulfill the research which should be distinct and separate. According to Dr. Pama, there are threefold mission that suits the core of higher learning in an institution, to teach, to research and to give back. He stated to the forum that these mission do provide the structure of increasing and defining what is the aim of HEI. Therefore, in my opinion that we need to grasp and apply these missions in order for us to seek new knowledge, enhance our professionalism and improve our well being, thus our Institution enhances its quality and produce better and more proficient professionals.He also stated that the use of research is the main point of view that in order to enhance ourselves and better understand what the situation or an exact phenomena happen, we use research. Even in our day-to-day events occur, we need also research. The research what Dr. Pama speaks is that we ourselves need research in order for us to create a solution to a certain problem we encountered on an everyday situation, enhances ourselves and shows interest into others, and expand what we had discovered on the way. Dr. Pama stressed out that research will not just only answer a solution to the problem, but also improves us to become better professionals. In my opinion, Dr. Pama encourages us to become aware of our day-to day events that we faced and through the use of research, we can create a better point of view not only to be used by ourselves but also contribute and e used in the public interest. Dr. Pama encourages us to use research. Read and read and read about research, and as we are more interested and getting more and more improved in solving problems and although we are empiricists, we can built a strong foundation. It is therefore that we ourselves are innovative, that every problem has always a solution.The next speaker inline was Dr. Sinforoso M.Birung. He is the Director for Office of Programs and Standards at the Commission of Higher Education or CHED. His research forum was all about the Policies and Standards in Graduate Education: Their impact on quality and Relevant Research in the Philippines. In his outline, he discussed on matters regarding increasing the demand of graduate education in the Philippines, which is to enhance every Higher Education Institutions (HEI) to make a globally competitive post-graduate professionals who are eager to boost up through research studies and become well known not in the pulic, but also other countries. Dr. Birung stressed that HEI also has to raise their standards in Graduate Education thus improving their product a more and well competent and well produced in the market. In my opinion, Dr. Birung made me understood about what is really a need for a professional be more professional if he/she enrolls into the graduate school. He also emphasizes the importance of research as the main core in improve and create quality education to graduate students.Inline with his discussion, he also discussed about the K-12 system policies, in which the forum was the most interesting topic to every graduate students especially on the Education Department and Teaching. He stressed the implementation of the K-12 system this 2016 where there will be additional two years of education studies in the Primary and Secondary Education. In my opinion, although there will be a big burden to parents, especially to the low income class about the increase on the number of years in education and adds more expenses, the K-12 system is a challenging program in education system to improve every individual entering the school of their choice to become competent people in the society and improve their education background.After lunch break, the next presenters were the four people in different departments discussing their research proposals. The first presenter was Mr. Margarito B. Materum, a faculty member of the Department of Education and Teaching. He presented Students-at-risk First Initiative: A Strategy for Dropout Reduction which he proposed that there is a strategy to improve the student in his academic grades and finishes school, and reduce student dropouts. In his proposal, he presented in a manner of a formal way of presenting the research. He also discussed a complex, but well structured framework.The second presenter was Mr. R.L. Garcia of the Department of Tourism, Hotel and Restaurant, and Hospitality Management. He proposed a study about the Content Analysis of Hotel Guest Comment Cards: A Study of Luxury Hotels in the National Capital Region, Philippines. He proposed whether the customers and guest of the hotels use Hotel Guest Comment Cards in improving and evaluation in the services and maintenance. He, in my own words, is a person who always belief that we will improve tourism and hospitality.The next presenter was Mr. Raymond Joseph C. Almoro, of the Department of Nursing and Allied Health. He presented about the Antecedents of Nursing Licensure Examination Performance among Students of a Dominican Schools in the Philippines. He emphasizes that the relationship of competency and good performance of nursing students in that Dominican school was a significant. He later proposed that the higher the academic performance from the nursing aptitude test to the evaluation and school performance, the higher the level the student pass the nursing licensure examination. In my own opinion, he tries to determine the situation of the nursing in the Philippines as the competency of nursing profession gone down and practice may seem to be reduced.The last presenter and well discussed was of Mr. Michael Joseph S. Dio, of the Research Council and PhD(c) of the Pontifical and Royal University of Santo Thomas. He presented the Understanding Behavioral Intention for Gerontologic Telehealth Participation Results from a Senior-Learning-Computer (SLC) Program in the Philippines. He proposed that every senior citizen may have benefits in health care given by the care provider through the use of computer technology. He later proposed that even the senior citizens can embrace the technology of the use of computers, which Michael Joseph proposed the study on understating the behavior of the seniors in introducing technology through computers in reaching health to them. In my opinion, his proposed study was one of my idols and interest in doing my research. It is because it is not the research for the improvement of the study, but the contribution to every individual in the Philippines.
