Human needs are universal; however, some may be modified by cultural influence. 4. The nursing process is always concerned with phys- iological needs first; then progresses to teaching, decreasing anxiet y, etc. This is also true for the client with psychosocial needs; the client’s physi- ological needs must be met before progressing to the next level. NURSING PRIORITY: Pay attention to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs when answering test questions related to setting priorities. The physiological needs at the base of the pyramid must be satisfied first in order to focus on other needs—and remember that oxygenation is always the first physiological need or priority. NURSING PRIORITY:  Avoid  pooling  of  excessive drainage under saturated dressing; this can lead to skin irritation and infection.
