DIARY DATES

Principal: Jill Hess | Deputy Principal: Anne Thomas 26th March 2020

WELCOME TO WEEK 9

What interesting times we are living in. It is

Important that we listen to the experts and follow their instructions. When discussing COVID-19, be honest with your children but not alarmist. Children need to know the facts and not blindly believe some of the social media comments. Following simple procedures, we should be relatively safe. Such a challenging time for parents deciding on what is best for their children.

NEW PROCEDURES

We are still operating with full staffing and taking all precautions to protect all members of our school community. The school remains open and we are here working hard. Some parents have chosen to keep their children home in isolation. For those families we have year level/class learning packs in the Front Office for parents to take home and use to work with their children.

For the students attending school we have implemented the following procedures:-

Physical distancing students as best we can in classrooms

Students reminded to wash their hands with soap often during the day

Separate lunch and recess breaks for R-3/4’s and 4/5’s – 7 (if student numbers drop even further, we will resume R-7 break times)

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

APRIL

Students who are on school grounds before

8.30am and after 3.30pm are not supervised and

the school is not able to take responsibility for

them.

Before 8.30am students need to wait under the

shelter near the staffroom and after 3.30pm they

are asked to come to the office so we can con-

tact families.

Breakfast Club and toast have finished

Soap is in all classrooms, which have a sink, as for the one class which does not have a sink, hand sanitizer is in place.

We are monitoring that there is soap in all toilets

The Colour Run, assemblies and the Open Morning have all been postponed

Pupil Free Day on May 1st - postponed

Express O Coffee Club meetings are on hold for the time being.

Limiting the number of parents who enter classrooms

Additional 6 hours of cleaning per day, paid for by our department, to wipe down all hard surfaces in the school including tables and chairs each night, plus an additional toilet and sink clean during the day. Our department is certainly working very hard to protect children and staff members, so glad I work for the Department for Education.

I believe we have everything in place that can be at this time and we are following all recommendations made by our department. Students attending are happy and relaxed and with your on-going support, I am sure this will continue.

LEARNING RESOURCES

If you would like further resources to support your child while he/she is in isolation, please click on the following link Our Learning SA . This is a resource established by our department to support student learning both at school and home. Depending on future decisions about schools being open, we may need to develop a range of other protocols to support students and their learning. We will keep you informed about this.

CANTEEN

Unfortunately, our Canteen will stop operating today. With the number of absences this week, there have not been enough orders to make the canteen viable. Although the Canteen is a non-profit organization, it does need to take enough orders to pay the employees. The other issue is we do not want student lining up for food and being in close proximity to each other. The Canteen is managed by the Governing council and the Governing Council Chairperson – Stephen Garrett, is supportive of this measure.

YARD BEHAVIOUR SURVEY

In weeks 7/8 we conducted a yard behaviour survey. No student reported ANY CASES OF BULLYING during any break times over that time. Some children did not enjoy either a recess or lunch because they fell and hurt themselves; could not find a friend or were bored. The issues raised provided us with both class and whole school direction so we can address the issues raised through social skills programmes and new lunchtime activities next term.

STUDENT CORNER

In Week 3 we had a visit from Olympian Rachel Sporn. She talked to us about never giving up and having a positive mind set. When

she was younger in her childhood she talked to us about her inspiration to go to the Olympics. She said when she was younger she

was watching the Olympics on tv one day and she saw this female runner and that was what inspired her. Then she talked to us

about her basketball career. She stated that she played in the WNBL for Adelaide Lightening when she first started playing basket-

ball. Then she progressed playing basketball for an Olympian team called The Opals. Then she went on to telling us that she met Guy

Sebastian and she showed us a photo of her and Guy.

Overall it was a very great experience for all of us. I personally enjoyed her visit because I play basketball and she is a sports person I

aspire to be. I also enjoyed it because she gave us some tips for achieving your goals, one of the tips she told us was always have a

positive and growth mindset and never give up if you don’t succeed try, try, try and failure is key to success. She also got to have the

torch that they light at the start of the Olympics.
