SWIMMING LESSONS
R-5 students have finished their week of swimming
lessons. The lessons went very well and students were
engaged in learning new skills. Thank you all for your
understanding about the change in dates. The change was
out of our control and we needed to adjust very quickly.
Thank you to David, staff and parents who adapted and
moved forward even though it was difficult.

GOVERNING COUNCIL MEETING
We had a great turn out to our Governing Council AGM last Monday. This is the
largest GC we have formed in many years.
We welcome to the Governing Council: Janine Gladigau, Jodie Kurtz, Gary
Pentland, Maree Reid and Anne Thomas. Also for a return of tenure Robyn
Salfischberger, Jenny Doecke and Shannon Ellard.
Continuing members are Alex Stokoe, Rita Gallas, Sahar Rosenzweig, Stephen
Garrett and Roena Saegenschnitter. Kelli Howlett and Taryn Butler will attend
meetings as appropriate.
Office bearers are:
Stephen Garrett – Chairperson
Sahar Rosenzweig – Vice Chairperson
Secretary – Robyn Salfischberger
Treasurer – Jenny Doecke
Other lead committee members are:
Grounds – Sahar
BOSCH – Stephen and Sahar
Canteen - Roena,
Uniforms - Shannon
Fundraising Roena with Taryn Butler’s help.
You will agree that we have a wonderful representation of our school community in
our Governing Council. I look forward to working closely with this new team.
CHOIR
Choir began last Tuesday with Lydia, our Hourly Paid Instructor, who is directing
students. I will be supervising students during this time because Lydia is not a
teacher. She does however have all of the appropriate clearances. We have
several very keen students who enjoyed the first practice.
LATE ARRIVALS AND EARLY DEPARTURES
If your child arrives late to school or needs to leave early, they will need to be
signed IN or OUT at the front office. Can you please remind your child of the
importance of doing this to keep the roll books accurate and to keep them safe.

DEPUTY PRINCIPAL AND PASTORAL CARE POSITIONS
Applications for the Deputy Principal’s role close next Thursday. We hope that this
process will result in a Deputy being appointed for 5 years. This is a very complex
process and the panel look for a person who they think meets the criteria and will
work well in our school with parents, students and staff members. Sometimes
panels make their recommendation and the candidate takes another position so the
panel has to be run again. So you can see, this isn’t a cut and dry situation.
The applications for the Pastoral Care Worker’s role also close next Thursday.
Once again, we are hoping the right person will be amongst the candidates and we
will have a new PCW starting in Term 2.
In both of these cases it is important that the panel is thorough, and finds the
“best” person for the role. The “best” person isn’t always the person with the
highest qualifications or the most experience; it is the person who will fit well into
our school. Panels also check with referees about the quality of candidates; we
don’t want just anyone in these critical roles in our school.
I am pleased that David Murray is going to be the school representative on the
Deputy Principal’s panel and Roena Sagenschnitter will be the parent
representative on the Pastoral Car Worker panel.
LIFE LINE CONTACT NUMBERS FOR OUR STUDENTS
There are times when our children need to talk to someone
but not necessarily family or staff members. At school we
encourage students to call the Kids Help Line so they can
have some free, confidential counselling.
This is a 24 hour service, 7 days a week, so you may wish
to allow your child to access this number from home if
they are feeling particularly upset. There is also an option
for parents to ring this number for some assistance.
The number for Kids Helpline is 1800 55 1800.
STEM UPDATE
Our STEM building is coming along and the classrooms have been built. We are now
in the process of covering the floors. We hope the building will be completed in the
next few weeks and we will be able to move during the last week of term. There will
be several weeks between building completion and our moving in because we need to
go through an extensive checklist to make sure the building meets all building codes.
Congratulations to our new SEG members. What a fabulous group to be leading our students this year.

LEADERSHIP TRAINING
Last week I spent 2 days in Adelaide training with other leaders. One of the BIG
messages being shared was the importance of children’s vocabulary in the reading
process. It is so very important for us to talk with, and read to, our children to
help them gain a good vocabulary which helps them understand the world of words
and helps them to understand written text.
INVOICING AND FAMILY/ STUDENT INFORMATION UPDATE
On Friday we will be sending home forms for you to check that our information is
current and up to date. It is extremely important that ALL of these forms are
returned to the school.
Invoices will be included in your family pack. There is also a brochure on how to
use the new payment app QKR which is now up and running. If you do use QKR for
your payments, please still send in the paperwork for your invoice/ fundraiser etc.,
with “PAID QKR” marked on it.
Many thanks,
Deb Wilson, Business Manager.
COMMUNITY NOTICE BOARD
We have many, many emails from community groups requesting a spot in our
fortnightly newsletter, and unfortunately sometimes there is not enough space to
include them. We will establish a notice board in the front window of the office
and put a brief note in the newsletter to alert you. We will also post these notices
to our Skoolbag app.
