IlThis book is an integral and essen-tial part of the product and must begiven to the user. Read this bookcarefully. It provides important infor-mation concerning safety of installa-tion, use and maintenance. Save itcarefully for future reference.

After unpacking, make sure theappliance is complete. In case ofdoubts, do not use the appliance, butconsult a qualified technician.Packaging items which are poten-tially dangerous (plastic bags,polystyrene foam, nails, etc.) must bekept out of children’s reach and mustnot be disposed of in the environ-ment.

RISK OF POLLUTION

Before connecting the appliancemake sure the rating plate data corre-spond with the mains. This plate ison the front panel at the top righthand side of the appliance. Theappliance must be installed by quali-fied technicians in accordance withcurrent standards and manufacture-r’s instructions.The manufacturer is not liable for anydamage caused due to failure toground the system. For the electricalsafety of the appliance, it is neces-sary to equip the system with the pro-per grounding. This must be carriedout by a qualified electrician whomust ensure that the electric powerof the system is sufficient to absorbthe maximum power input stated onthe plate.

In particular you must ensure that thesize of the wiring cables is sufficientto absorb power input.The use of adapters, multiple socketsor extensions is strictly forbidden. Ifthey prove necessary, call a fully qua-lified electrician.

The machine must be installed accor-ding to the local standards in forcewith regard to plumbing systems. Forthis reason, the plumbing connec-tions must be carried out by a quali-fied technician.

This appliance must only be used asdescribed in this handbook. Themanufacturer shall not be liable forany damage caused due to improper,incorrect and unreasonable use.

Basic rules must be observed whenusing any electric appliance.

In particular:• do not touch the appliance when

hands or feet are wet;

• do not use the appliance whenbarefoot;

• do not use extensions in bath orshower rooms;

• do not pull the supply cord out ofthe socket to disconnect it fromthe mains;

For all cleaning operations complyexclusively with the instructionsgiven in this booklet.

If the appliance breaks down or failsto work properly, switch it off. Anyintervention is strictly forbidden.Contact qualified experts only.Repairs should only be made by themanufacturer or authorized servicecentres. Only original spare partsmust be used. Failure to observe theabove, could make the applianceunsafe.

For installation, the qualified electri-cian must fit an omnipolar switch inaccordance with the safety regula-tions in force and with 3 (0,12) ormore mm (in) between contacts.

To avoid dangerous overheating,make sure the supply cord is fullyuncoiled.

Do not obstruct the extraction and/ordissipator grids, especially of the cupwarmer.

The user must not replace theappliance supply cord. If the cord isdamaged, switch off the applianceand have a qualified technician chan-ge the cord.

If no longer using the appliance, werecommend making it inoperative;after removing the plug from themains electricity, cut the powersupply cable.

Always quote the machine serial number in allcommunications to the manufacturer, NuovaSimonelli.

The machine is transported on pallets whichalso contain other machines - all boxed andsecured to the pallet with supports.

Prior to carrying out any transport or handlingoperation, the operator must:

• put on work gloves and protective footwear,as well as a set of overalls which must beelasticated at the wrists and ankles.The pallet must be transported using a sui-table means for lifting (e.g., forklift).

During all handling operations, the operatormust ensure that there are no persons,objects or property in the handling area.The pallet must be slowly raised to a heightof 30 cm (11,8 in) and moved to the loadingarea. After first ensuring that there are nopersons, objects or property, loading opera-tions can be carried out.Upon arrival at the destination and afterensuring that there are no persons, objectsor property in the unloading area, the pro-per lifting equipment (e.g. forklift) should beused to lower the pallet to the ground andthen to move it (at approx. 30 cm (11,8 in)from ground level), to the storage area.

Before carrying out the following operation,the load must be checked to ensure that it isin the correct position and that, when thesupports are cut, it will not fall.The operator, who must first put on workgloves and protective footwear, will proceedto cut the supports and to storing the pro-duct. To carry out this operation, the techni-cal characteristics of the productmust be consulted in order to know theweight of the machine and to store it accor-dingly.

After unpacking, assess that the machine andits accessories unit are complete, then proceedas follows:

• place the machine so that it is level on a flatsurface;

• assemble its supporting feet by insertingthe insert into the cylindrical unit;

• twist the rubber foot into the screw threadinside the unit;

• screw the whole assembled unit into theallotted setting for the machine’s adjustablefeet;

• level the machine by regulating the adjusta-ble feet;

NOTE: the unit grooves have to face upwards,as shown in the following illustration.

It is advisable to install a softener (1) and thena mesh filter (2) on the external part of theplumbing system, during preliminaries and afterlevelling the machine.In this way impurities like sand, particles of cal-cium, rust etc will not damage the delicate gra-phite surfaces and durability will be guaranteed.

NOTE: For a correct functioning of the machi-ne the water works pressure must notexceed 4 bars.Otherwise install a pressure reducerupstream of the softener; the internaldiameter of water entrance tube mustnot be less than 6mm (³⁄₈”)

5. ADJUSTMENTS TO BE MADE BY A QUALIFIED TECHNICIAN ONLY

NOTE: this operation must be carried out withthe machine turned off.

All models are equipped with alevel gauge to keep the water level inside theboiler constant.When using the machine for the first time, it isadvisable to fill the boiler by hand to avoiddamaging the electrical resistor and turning onthe electronic protection.If this should happen, just turn the machine offand then start it up again to complete its loa-ding procedure (see chapter “MACHINEFUNCTIONS MESSAGE – LEVEL ERROR”).

To fill the boiler manually for the first time, pro-ceed as follows:• remove the worktop grid;• turn the manual “A” level tap so that water

will enter the boiler;• once the maximum level has been reached,

as indicated by the optical level, turn tap “A”off;

• switch the machine on by placing the general switch on “I”; this will activate the level gauge which will automatically maintain thewater level inside the boiler.

NOTE: this operation can be carried out whilethe machine is turned on.

To adjust the service pressure of the boiler,thus regulating the water temperature, accor-ding to the various functions and needs of thecoffee desired, proceed as follows:• remove the worktop grid cover;• remove the protective metal sheet by

unscrewing the four side screws (A) as shown in the following illustration;

• turn the pump registration screw, turning it

The Vip Plus electronic control unit is equippedwith a lithium battery to provide the clock withan approximately three-year autonomy period,after which replacing the battery may provenecessary.

In case the machine has remained unutilisedfor a long time, the clock can be blocked by pro-ceeding as follows:

5.5 PUSH-BUTTON PANELREPLACEMENT

Replacement of the lithium battery must becarried out EXCLUSIVELY by QualifiedTechnician.Nuova Simonelli cannot be held liable forany damage to people or things due to nonobservance of the safety prescriptionsdescribed in this booklet.

For correct functioning of the machine, perso-nalising each button panel card at time ofreplacement is necessary; proceed as followson the selectors placed on the card (on the keyside).

Each model can come with the optional elec-tronic displays which can be set by using thedating key. To set, follow the instructions provi-ded in this booklet.

Before starting to use the appliance, the opera-tor must be sure to have read and understoodthe safety prescriptions contained in this boo-klet.

The Aurelia Vip Plus model is provided withan optional key management system of wai-ter keys and technician U key, so that diffe-rent keys correspond to different functions.The waiter keys can access the normal wor-king functions and can be displayed but notmodified on the program menu (Ch.7). Thetechnician U key allows you to access allthe functions and to modify the parametersof the programming menu.

6.5 MAKING CAPPUCCINO

To obtain the typical cappuccino foam, immer-se the nozzle all the way into a container 1/3full of milk (preferably cone-shaped). Turn onthe steam. Before the milk starts to boil, pull thenozzle slightly up and lightly move it verticallyacross the surface of the milk. When you havecompleted the procedure, clean the nozzlecarefully with a soft cloth.

• Setting predetermined values for the fourdoses of the first delivery unit is not possi-ble. To do so, you must:

• Press the first unit continuous delivery key and keep pressing it for at least 8seconds, until the flashing delivery keys ofthe first unit turn off.

Once the filter-holder has been removed,repeat delivery operations a few times to eli-minate any cleanser residues.

To carry out the washing procedure, proceed asfollows:1) Substitute the filter with the delivery unit

blind filter.2) Fill it with two spoonfuls of special cleanser

8.6 RESIN AND SOFTENERREGENERATION

To avoid scaling deposits in the boiler and inthe heating exchangers, the softener mustalways be kept efficient. Therefore, the ionicresins must be regularly regenerated.Regeneration times are established accordingto the quantity of coffee delivered daily andthe hardness of the water utilised.As an indication, regeneration times can becalculated on the basis diagram illustrated inFig. 35.

9. AURELIA PLUS MACHINE FUNCTION MESSAGES

At the time of the diagno-sis the system presentsfaults within the controlunit EPROM.

CAUSE EFFECT

On reaching deliverytime limit (120 seconds)the doser doesn’t sendout its set commands.

If the doser doesn’t sendout its set commandswithin the first threeseconds from deliveryonset.

If after 90 sec of machi-ne functioning the waterlevel is not re-establis-hed.

The machine will notheat and all its functionswill be blocked.

The display indicator andthe ‘continuous’ keybelonging to the relativeunit will flash on and off.

If the delivery isn’tmanually halted, themaximum time limit (120sec) will be blocked.

The display indicator willflash on and off. Thepump is de-activated.The resistor and all thefunctions are halted.

DIAGNOSIS OF ERROR
