Lent: a path for living our spiritualityfully.

“Is this not, rather, the fast that I choose: releasingthose bound unjustly, untying the thongs of the yoke;setting free the oppressed, breaking off every yoke? Isit not sharing your bread with the hungry, bringing theafflicted and the homeless into your house; clothingthe naked when you see them, and not turning your

back on your own flesh?Isaiah 58:6-7

Father Małota works together with two priests of the Dioceseof Bereina. On this visit he also accompanied the bishop ofthis diocese and Father Homero, superior of the mission. They travelled in a small plane (with six seats, including thatof the pilot). The only way of reaching this place is by plane.

The site is beautiful: a valley within the mountains.Father Włodzimierz, together with the diocesan priests, caresfor five parishes and every parish has at least five missionsattached to it. Georges Maylaa, a new confrere from Lebanonwho is already in Papua, will join this mission. At this time,he is going through the process necessary for induction intothis new mission.

The Superior General had plans to visit the confreres from

Indonesia, which has a mission in a diocese of Papua NewGuinea. He could not do it, because he already had spentmore time than foreseen on the Fatima mission. The flightshad been cancelled by the government due to an unsuccess-ful coup d’état (the first one in the history of this country).

News Bulletin from the General Curia of theCongregation of the Mission

On returning, he went to visit Monsignor Rolando Santos (aconfrere who recently was named Bishop of Alotau-Sideia).With him they visited Kiriwina in Trobrand Islands, wherethey hope to open a mission. It is expected that the first mis-

sionary will arrive in August or September of this year. Theygot to know both the island’s parishes and later returned toAlotau, the Diocesan See.

He returned to Port Moresby to spend the last days of the visitin meetings with the confreres. During those days he had theopportunity to meet the bishop of this place at a concelebratedMass for the perpetual and temporary vows of a group of Mis-sionaries of the Sacred Heart. This Congregation was the firstone to arrive in these lands.

He also had the opportunity to greet a Capuchin friend, re-cently elected bishop, Monsignor Lippert. At the beginning ofhis priesthood, he had lived in the United States with him andother companions, who were also there.

Lent: a path for living our spiritualityfully.

“Then your light shall break forth like the dawn, andyour wound shall quickly be healed; your vindicationshall go before you, and the glory of the LORD shall beyour rear guard. Then you shall call, and the LORDwill answer, you shall cry for help, and he will say:“Here I am!”
