There are some changes in the CFD market with the introduction of open source models
Solver becomes more like a commodity
Added value relies in the global robustness, quality, automaticity, accuracy, speed of the whole CFD chain, as well as in the surroundings pre- and
post-processors and features
Users like cost effective CFD with automatic high quality grids, full parallel seamless process, click and go GUI, co-processingand with a large variety of physics available
They also like intelligent , application-driven software with dedicated features for their specific usage (turbomachinery, marine)
Some users are attracted by open-source model for its seeming free license model and the flexibility towards in-house developments but they often underestimate the required expertise and the hidden cost in resources needed to maintain the CFD code and process.
