I would discuss the calendar. We would count the numbers as I point to
each one. We would add the next number.

them. We would clap, march, stomp, etc. as we
count the numbers.
Flashcards
A set sent home for students to practice. Play a game to see who could recognize the
number first while I hold them up. Peer tutoring with the cards. Play a game of “March around the Number”.
Students march around a circle of numbers while music is playing. When music stops they say the number in front of them.
Environmental
Recognize the numbers on their bus. Recognize the number on their seat. Recognize a different number on the
floor to sit on each. Recognize numbers on/in books, paper,
chalkboards, etc.

The students will flatten out playdoh and press number stamps into it.
Tracing Numbers
Trace dot to dot numbers. Use laminated worksheet to trace over the
number. Trace numbers in gel pack. Pretend their fingers are wands and trace
numbers in the air. Use Wikki sticks to make and trace
numbers
Manipulatives
Place shaving cream on tray and write numbers in it.
Make numbers with wikki sticks. Glue popcorn, beans, dried peas, etc on the
number. Finger paint the numbers.

Put number tiles in bag, have two students pick a tile and place it in appropriate place, then determine which is more or less.

Place number cards 1 to 20 on table upside down, students pick a card and decide if it come before or after number 10.
