Katina McGregor

Sharon Madden

Hi, my name is Katina McGregor and I recently accepted the role of Art Teacher for Collinsville State High School, beginning 2020. I am also currently teaching some English and Home Economics classes. I have relocated from the goldfields in Central Victoria where I was born and raised, and where my family and partner are currently still located. I have not long entered the teaching profession, and aside from some relief teaching, this will be my first year having my own classes. I am very much looking forward to seeing what this year brings.

It is lovely to be back with the staff and students at CSHS. This year I am teaching Maths, Hospitality, SOSE and Business.

Hi! My name is Sharon Madden and I happily accepted the role of DRT (district relief teacher) in Collinsville in August 2019. I teach across all three State schools in Collinsville in the event of a teacher being absent. I grew up in South Africa and only relocated to Australia rather late in life. My husband and two adult children accompanied me and we are all delighted to now call Australia home. We are very blessed and privileged! After many years of running child care facilities, I decided to return to the teaching profession. A really good decision! I am finding my role as DRT both challenging and fulfilling! Never a dull moment!

I have taught in various schools in rural and regional New South Wales for the past five years. I moved up here to experience a new lifestyle and explore the Whitsundays. I love to try out new recipes and make a mess in the kitchen and also love to take my rescue pup Tilly for a walk to new areas – happy to know where the good parts of town are to explore something new. Sport is a major part of my life, especially swimming and athletics. I have represented NSW at State Carnivals for swimming (butterfly and freestyle sprints are my favourite), and State and National carnivals for discus and hammer throw. I have travelled to many countries (over 20 so far) and can speak German fluently. I am passionate about showing students that there are amazing things in this world that can be explored when you are hardworking, open minded and respectful to everyone you meet.

We would like to welcome to Laurie-ann Williams to our school community as a Tuckshop Convenor. Tuckshop is available at first break every weekday. Laurie-ann and Belinda will rotate their tuckshop shifts week about.

Whats happening in INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC

We are looking for students who would like to play brass/woodwind and percussion instruments in the school instrumental Music program. If you played an instrument in primary school or just want to start an instrument in high school you are welcome to apply. If students are interested in playing this year please pick up a form from the office and return it to the office as soon as

possible.

LIFE SKILLS PROGRAM

Collinsville Youth Coalition (CYC) is starting our Life Skills Program for 2020. Year 10, 11 and 12 students have the opportunity to attend this program. The objective is to teach age and culturally appropriate life skills to youth. Life skills programs build confidence and resilience to prepare them to be responsible members of society.

These skills include but are not limited to self-knowledge skills, coping skills, employment skills, managing money skills, problem solving skills, communicaton skills, living skills and relationship skills.

If your student is interested, information can be obtained from the office or please contact Mrs Reeves or Mrs Lawn.
