INL Property Management

INL Property Management uses “Sunflower” software suite to track assets.

Sunflower is used complex-wide· Similar implementations has us “speaking the same language”· NEID can be made to easily incorporate reports from Sunflower as inputs.

Many fields are available, such as:· Date of purchase· Initial asset cost (not including installation)· Manufacturer, model and serial number· Location (building)· Point of Contact (steward)· Federal Supply Code (66 = lab equipment)

Information that is not available in Sunflower:· Operability, trained staff, utilization· Expected lifetime, future plans

Page 49: Nuclear Science User Facility Infrastructure Management Program Brenden Heidrich R&D Infrastructure Lead Idaho National Laboratory NSUF User’s Meeting.

50

Other INL Databases

NS&T Availability Database· Primarily Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) facilities data· “critical” equipment for supporting research· Includes R&D equipment:

– Searchable by facility– Current operability

• Including impacts on research projects• Date when equipment was surveyed for operability• Cause of equipment outage

· Warranty & Service contract expiration dates Asset Suite Database

· The INL business enterprise system for Work Management and Supply Chain Management activities

– purchasing, contracts, labor entry and reporting, – inventory, work management, and accounts payable

INL Portfolio Integration & Prioritization Tool (iPIP) (inactive since 2012)· Capabilities, operators, resources, needed investments · Customers, funded projects, programs, ROI

51

Gap Analysis Plan

1. Capability analysis, based on:

· Nuclear Energy Infrastructure Database – NEID currently has ~375 facilities and ~800 instruments– Mostly focused on materials and fuels with some thermal hydraulics

· A study of recent NEUP infrastructure applications

· R&D capabilities survey – 15MM$ capital cost + 1MM$ annual maintenance.– Sent out by NE-4 as part of an RFI (due 6/19/2015).– May follow up with a wider survey to the NEUP distribution list, NSUF User’s

Organization and others.• Web-site poll, easy for users to complete and easy to compile data

Page 52: Nuclear Science User Facility Infrastructure Management Program Brenden Heidrich R&D Infrastructure Lead Idaho National Laboratory NSUF User’s Meeting.

52

Gap Analysis Plan

2. R&D Directions analysis, drawn from a variety of sources such as:

· R&D work-scope survey– Sent out by NE-4 as part of an RFI (due 6/19/2015).

· A study of recent NEUP R&D applications

· Programmatic input– Current direction from DOE-NE (including 2015 NE Roadmap)– Past NE documents

• NE R&D Roadmap (2010), Facilities for the Future of NE R&D (2009), Required Assets for an Applied R&D Program (2009), etc. (2008-2014)

Seeking additional input from:• Department of Energy Programs

• Nuclear Energy Advisory Committee

• NSUF Scientific Review Board

• NSUF User’s Organization

• NSUF Industry Advisory Committee

Example Analysis

Step 3: (Narrow Question) What about the neutron energy spectra?

Step 4: (Data Review): fine-detail query of data from step 2

AP-1000 BN-600

Step 5: (Conclusion): Currently, there is no US-based, large-scale fast neutron capability comparable to ATR, HFIR, NBSR or MURR.

Step 6: (Recommend): Consider investing in fast flux facility or partnering with an international facility.
