Written assignment: Using the metaparadigm for nursing (person, environment,

health and nursing) as a framework for your discussion, write your personal

philosophy of nursing. Describe what each of these elements mean or represent to

you, and how you feel each of the concepts may or may not influence the others. You

may wish to gather information from the readings and other nursing sources to draw

in comparisons and help substantiate your assertions and personal reflections. This

assignment should take 3-4 word-processed pages, excluding title and reference

pages. Remember to cite and reference your work.

Discussion board assignment:

Identify the theory or conceptual framework that you feel best matches your nursing

practice. Discuss why or how various elements of this theory connect with you in

your nursing practice, the patients you care for, the environment, and the health

conditions you encounter (the metaparadigm elements). This should take at least 3

paragraphs for online presentation. You may use citations in your discussion, just as

you would a written assignment, and you can include your references below the last

paragraph. (Remember to read and respond to at least 2 other student’s postings).

population. In your discussion, consider the various types of environmental influences

that may affect this client population, as well as any individual factors that might

create areas of risk for these clients. You will also want to include any general health

promotion and protection strategies that may apply. Consider utilizing material from

the assigned readings and other resources. Please remember to cite and reference the

sources you have used in developing your paper. This assignment should take 3-5

word-processed pages, excluding the title and reference pages.

based practice (EBP) guidelines for your chosen topic and population. Describe the

information you have found about the recommendations and considerations in caring

of a global community. Describe the global implications for nurses caring for clients

with the health issue identified in Week 5. Consider how environmental,

geographical, cultural, socioeconomic, and political factors might influence or act as

barriers when designing health plans/policies/programs and treating these globally-

residing populations. You will likely find world health websites such as World Health

COURSE GUIDELINES

Active participation in both the online and classroom activities is essential for a rewarding and

positive experience.

All written assignments (with the exception of your first paper) should follow APA style

guidelines. I fully understand that many of you have never used APA style. Part of your learning

experience in this course is to become familiar with some of the basic components of APA

format. It takes a long time to master APA writing and I do not expect you to know it all in this

course. I look to see that you are trying and that you are incorporating any guidance that is

offered into your subsequent assignments. Please feel reassured that what you write (your

thoughts and ideas) is what I value most of all.

This is an accelerated course and we have a lot to cover in a short amount of time. It will be

important that all assigned work be completed on time. I would suggest plotting out due dates for

assignments on a calendar, at the start, so that you can make a schedule for accomplishing your
