Establishment of NSW Kids & FamiliesEstablishment of NSW Kids & Families

NSW Kids & Families is a new Board governed statutory health corporation established under the Health Services Acthealth corporation, established under the Health Services Act 1997 Sect. 41 Schedule 2.

We are a public health organisation and the fifth Pillar! We are a public health organisation and the fifth Pillar!

NSW Kids & Families ‘Opened for Business’ on 19 November 2012 when Chief Executive commenced.

Why Kids and Families?Why Kids and Families?NSW Kids & Families will aim to rebalance focus on the health, wellness and healthcare of mother’s and babies children youngwellness and healthcare of mother s and babies, children, young people and families.

Experiences and exposures before birth and in early Experiences and exposures before birth and in early childhood can influence the course of a person’s life with links to a range of chronic diseases in adulthood including diabetes cancer cardiovascular disease hypertensiondiabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, obesity and mental illness.

Nearly two-thirds of premature deaths and one-third of y pthe total disease burden in adults are associated with conditions or behaviours that began in their youth, including: tobacco use, a lack of physical activity, unprotected sex or exposure to violence.

Our scope?Our scope? Mothers-to-be and the growth, development, and birth of their babies to ensure the

best start to life.

The healthy growth and development of infants, children and young people and the choices they and their families make to preserve and promote good health and wellbeing.

Family and ‘whole of community’ health and wellbeing in the context of providing aFamily and whole of community health and wellbeing in the context of providing a safe and nurturing environment for healthy growth and development.

At risk mother’s, babies, children and young people, requiring additional support to achieve optimal health and wellbeing.

Women and babies, children and young people, who are unwell, injured or require other support services to restore or improve their physical or mental health.

Victims of domestic and family violence or sexual assault and the mitigation of its impact on personal health and wellbeing and family dynamics.

REDUCE INJURY & HARM: Develop and promote policies and practices which reduce the prevalence of injury and the health impact of violence and neglect on individuals families andprevalence of injury and the health impact of violence and neglect on individuals, families and the communities within which they live.

INSPIRE INNOVATION: Stimulate applied research and support uptake of new programs and innovative models of healthcare delivery.

IMPROVE HEALTH STATUS & OUTCOMES: Focus attention and effort on the resources and services that are proven to promote good health choices &/or improve health outcomes.

BUILD CAPACITY: Build the capacity and capability of healthcare services, communities and families to promote and protect children’s health and wellbeingfamilies to promote and protect children s health and wellbeing.

PROVIDE ADVICE & GUIDANCE: Provide expert advice to government and healthcare providers in relation to improving the health, wellbeing and healthcare of women and babies, children, young people and their families.
