WHAT IS NSS?y Stands for - NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME y Contributes towards the socio-economic progress of

the country. y It inculcates a sense of dignity of labour. y Provides social service to the society. y Works for improvement of physical environment. y Assists in rehabilitation work of the disabled. y Promotes National Integration & Social Harmony. y Work towards a common goal- WORLD PEACE .

STORY OF N.S.S. EMBLEMy The NSS symbol is embossed on the NSS badge. y The Konark wheel in the symbol has eight bars which

represent 24 hours of service.y The RED color in the badge indicates that the NSS

volunteers are full of blood.y The navy blue color indicates that we are to contribute

our share for the welfare of mankind.

OBJECTIVES OF |NSS}y Understand the community in which they work. y Identify the needs and problems of the community. y Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility. y Gain skills in mobilizing community participation. y Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude. y Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters. y Practice NATIONAL INTEGRATION.

WHY SHOULD YOU JOIN NSS?y To serve the society. y To Help people in estimating their emergency needs y To work towards infrastructure improvements. y Coordinating with community for their participation. y Bridging gap between government & people. y To Preserve Human Rights & fight for justice.

TERMS OF NSSy 120 hrs of social service in a year. y Completion of 2 year term. y Attend at least 1 special camp. y Use of Badges is compulsory.

CODE OF CONDUCT Volunteers shall work under the guidance of the group leader. They shall make themselves worthy of the confidence and cooperation of the group leader A day to day record of their activities should be submitted to the leader.

CODE OF CONDUCT A diary should be submitted to the Programme Officer for filling the report cards for getting 10 marks by 31st January. Volunteers are not allowed to work independently in any project of their own. They should be in an agency/village/slums adopted by the college NSS unit.
