ON DECEMBER 13, 2019, the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Signal Hill Chapter’s member Linda Wichman presented the Barrington’s White House Docent Committee with a donation of $2,000 for the purpose of purchasing period costumes that may be worn during tours, open houses, and other public events. The donation will cover the cost of two men’s outfits and three women’s outfits which can be adjusted based on the seasonal time of year. The costumes will reflect the first decade from when Julia and John Robertson built and lived the stately mansion, in 1898, and up to 1910. The costumes will reflect a time when Julia Robertson hosted the Women’s Thursday Club, a social event held at the mansion. The women’s costumes reflect the Gibson Girl style, and the men’s suits were referred to as Sack Suits, a reference to the letting-up of tight-fitting suit styles. The donation reflects the DAR Signal Hill Chapter’s commitment to supporting historical and patriotic educational efforts and the preservation of history within the Barrington community. Tom Gilder Named an Illinois 200 Bicentennial Veteran

THE VETERANS OF Lake Barrington Shores President, Tom Gilder, was named as an Illinois 200 Bicentennial Veteran. The Veterans of LBS offered their thanks for Gilder being chosen for this honor.

Illinois has more than 600,000 Veterans living in the state. The 200 Illinois Bicentennial Commission selected 200 to award as part of the 200-year Bicentennial celebration in 2018. Under the guidance of President Gilder and more than 160 Veterans living at LBS, the Veteran’s club has substantially contributed to the well-being and remembrance of Veterans in many ways. They manage a Memorial Garden at LBS, run a Support Our Troops annual drive to send necessary items to troops overseas, and much more. Barrington residents see the LSB Veterans each year in the Memorial Day and Fourth of July parades, as well as attendance at local Veteran’s Day celebrations. Congratulations to Tom Gilder!

Peter Yankala’s Zen Puzzles “WELL THIS IS FUN!” Peter Yankala said of his newest venture that combines his love of photography with a jigsaw puzzle manufacturer that uses his images. We asked the Phillips Men’s Wear owner to share his exciting news.

“Zen Puzzles are that high-end artisan wooden jigsaw puzzle-maker, from New York City,” Yankala said. “They picked up six of my shots. They include four Chicago and two local Barrington photos. Each set has secret pieces that are relevant to the area (like the Ferris Wheel at Navy Pier). Starting Spring 2019, they will be found at Chicago airports and gift shops ... but right now Colored Squid Gifts and Barrington Flower Shoppe at Cook and Station Streets have a premiere supply. I think I might buy one... or two.”
