Today’s Readings—

Gentiles Hear the Good News

Then Peter began to speak to them: ‘I trulyunderstand that God shows no partiality, Thatmessage spread throughout Judea, beginning inGalilee after the baptism that John announced: howGod anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spiritand with power; how he went about doing good andhealing all who were oppressed by the devil, for Godwas with him. We are witnesses to all that he didboth in Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him todeath by hanging him on a tree; but God raised himon the third day and allowed him to appear, not to allthe people but to us who were chosen by God aswitnesses, and who ate and drank with him after herose from the dead. He commanded us to preach tothe people and to testify that he is the one ordainedby God as judge of the living and the dead. All theprophets testify about him that everyone whobelieves in him receives forgiveness of sins throughhis name.’ (Acts 10:34, 37-43, NRSV)

Psalter

A Song of Victory

O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;his steadfast love endures for ever!

Let Israel say,‘His steadfast love endures for ever.’the right hand of the Lord is exalted;the right hand of the Lord does valiantly.’

I shall not die, but I shall live, and recount the deeds of the Lord.

The stone that the builders rejectedhas become the chief cornerstone.

This is the Lord’s doing;it is marvellous in our eyes. (Psalm 118: 118:1-2,

16-17, 22-23 , NRSV)

The New Life in Christ

So if you have been raised with Christ, seek thethings that are above, where Christ is, seated at theright hand of God. Set your minds on things that areabove, not on things that are on earth, for you havedied, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.When Christ who is your life is revealed, then youalso will be revealed with him in glory. (Colossians3:1-4, NRSV)

Early on the first day of the week, while it was stilldark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw thatthe stone had been removed from the tomb. So sheran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, ‘Theyhave taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do notknow where they have laid him.’ Then Peter and theother disciple set out and went towards the tomb. Thetwo were running together, but the other discipleoutran Peter and reached the tomb first. He bentdown to look in and saw the linen wrappings lyingthere, but he did not go in. Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw thelinen wrappings lying there, and the cloth that hadbeen on Jesus’ head, not lying with the linenwrappings but rolled up in a place by itself. Then theother disciple, who reached the tomb first, also wentin, and he saw and believed; for as yet they did notunderstand the scripture, that he must rise from thedead. (John 20:1-9, NRSV)
