Policy base for EEA work area SA1.7
• EEA regulation• 7th EAP
• Priority 1 Natural capital
• EU Biodiversity strategy to 2020 (Commission Communication: Our life insurance, our natural capital: an EU biodiversity strategy to 2020 (COM(2011) 244))
Green Infrastructure Strategy (COM(2013) 249)
IAS Regulation
• Global Biodiversity Agenda in the context of the Convention on Biological Diversity and its set of twenty AICHI targets.
MAWP 2014-2018 SA1.7 Specific Objectives
• to collect, process, quality assure and disseminate data and information on genes, species, habitats and ecosystems to support the Birds and Habitats Directives, the EU Biodiversity Strategy and related multilateral, regional and global policy agreements;
• to assist the European Commission and the Member states with the reporting of data towards the implementation of the Nature Directives;
• to further develop EEA and shared information systems , in particular the Biodiversity Information System for Europe (BISE), in support to the above;
• use biodiversity and ecosystems data, information and knowledge to inform and support the assessment of the implementation of related (agriculture, forests) and cross-cutting policy objectives (ecosystem-based management, water, marine, urban, regional) through topic assessments to track progress towards the achievement of biodiversity targets as defined in relevant EU and international policies through relevant indicators and assessments;
• to assess the status and trends of terrestrial and marine biodiversity, as well as pressures and possible impacts of measures related to biodiversity and ecosystems in relevant legislative instruments and policies (CAP and rural development, Forestry Strategy, and complementary to work in the areas on water and marine).
• to make use of Copernicus land monitoring services to support the bio-physical mapping and assessments of ecosystems and their services.

Priority - Strategic area 2: Assessing systemic challenges
• SOER 2015: during 2014, the focus of work towards the next report on the state of, trends in and prospects for the environment in Europe (SOER 2015) will be on developing the underpinning regular assessments and drafting of its constituent parts – in view of a planned publication in early 2015. Tools for ‘SOE-online’ will be deployed to enhance online access to regularly updated data and indicators in support of the SOER 2015 process.
Priority - Strategic area 3: KnowledgeCo-creation, sharing and use
• Evaluation of the progress of implementation of the Inspire Directive in close cooperation with Eionet and relevant European Commission services – CDDA as a test case
