Learn: NPCs
Learn: NPCs are humanoid characters which are placed in worlds that can be used to provide “life” and ambiance to the setting. NPCs interact with visitors to the world, and also provide additional lesson information, hints, or instructions for students to discover. NPCs stay where they are spawned and can be named. NPCs can also display dialogue when interacted with and can be assigned URLs and commands. Apply:
1. Press the E on keyboard to open the Inventory. 2. Find the Search tool. 3. Type in “NPC”.

5. Drop into the tool bar. 6. Press E again to exit the Inventory. 7. After returning to the game, make sure to select the NPC from the hotbar.
The right-side menu should have the word, Place.
8. Right-click to Place the NPC. The NPC will appear as a character facing forward.
9. To edit the NPC, World Builder mode must be on. Place the crosshairs (+) on the NPC and look at the right-hand menu. If it displays right-click to Edit, then World Builder is on. Continue to step #11. If it displays right-click to Talk, then World Build needs to be turned on. Continue to step #10.

10. To turn World Builder on (true), type “/” to bring up the command tool. Continue the command code “/wb” and click enter or the arrow. The play screen will now display “World Builder status updated to true.”
11. Once in World Builder Mode, place the crosshairs (+) on the NPC and right-
click. This action will bring up the NPC edit or settings screen.

12. In the Settings screen, the Name and Appearance of the NPC can be
customized. In the editable field, name the NPC. Use the arrow buttons to scroll through the Appearance choices.
13. In the Settings screen, select the Edit Dialog button. This allows the creator to edit what the NPC says when a player interacts with it. After typing the dialog for the NPC, click the “x” to return to the main Settings screen.

14. In the Settings screen, select the button Advanced Settings. In the Advanced Settings, the creator can add a URL or code commands. This creates a button under the dialog box when a player interacts with the NPC.
15. To add a URL, select the Add URL button.
16. In the next screen, add the URL. The Button Name can also be customized.
For each URL added, a new button will be created in the dialog box for the NPC.

17. When finished editing, click the “x” in the top right corner of the Advanced
Settings box.
18. To interact with the NPC, exit out of World Builder. To turn World Builder off
(false), type “/” to bring up the command tool. Continue the command code “/wb” and use enter or the arrow. The play screen will now display “World Builder status updated to false.”
