Transcript of Now You See Me 2 Contextual Analysis
NOW YOU SEE ME 2By Dylan Koolman
MISE-EN-SCENE AND CAMERA • Dark lighting adds to the message
of mystery surrounding the characters. Conforms to the magicians desire of the audience's vision to be focused on one specific area as opposed to actually seeing the full picture. Camera angle is mostly obscure and blocked by either the sides of the car of from an off-centre point, usually a long two shot or a medium two shot at a canted angle, further controlling the audience’s view.
EDITING, MISE-EN-SCENE AND MUSIC
• Staging and quick screen duration with fast jump cuts shows the high speed of the performers intended to keep the audience's interest peaked. Lighting also used to make their message of creating a spectacle, a reality. This along with the highly energetic non-diegetic music means that the energy and excitement within the audience is intended to be high.
SOUND• Diegetic sound background voice giving the warning to the main
characters creates suspense for the audience as they are about to be in trouble, This conforms to the typical genre conventions of a thriller. Change in music from energetic to suspenseful and simplistic acts as a way to keep introduce confusion into the audience as to how the plot is going to be uncovered from here.
EDITING• Manipulation of the screen duration
between fast and slow as well as multiple fades to black then flashes up to the scenes used to disorientate the viewer. Makes the trailer a part of the magicians' show as the viewer is left dazed.
MISE-EN-SCENE• Costumes are all carrying the
same theme of professional which shows the unification between the characters, allowing the audience to establish the relationship between the characters as a team.
SOUND• Synchronicity of the music ending and the female character speaking
providing her comic relief line adds to the comedic aspect of the film which gives the audience a variety of emotions to experience from the film, making the film more appealing to watch which conforms to the main goal of a movie trailer.
