As the 2020 calendar year arrives, I cannot help but ponder what the future

holds for our Section, training opportunities, and the ever changing world of

water quality. However, I want to take a look back at all that we accomplished

in 2019 as well as all the selfless volunteers and participation that makes our

Tri-Counties Section such a special place.

First off, I would like to give a huge shout out to Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley,

and San Luis Obispo for hosting our March, June, and September Workshops

respectively. Without the support and dedication of our Municipalities/

Districts, as well as the tireless support of the employees, our training events

would not be nearly as successful and collaborative as they have become.

Tri-Counties also hosted our annual Past Presidents Golf Tournament (Glen

Annie Golf Course, Goleta), Past President’s Picnic (Lions Park, Carpintaria),

Turkey of the Year Annual Dinner and Safety meeting (Ventura Beach Marriot,

Ventura) and Technical Certification Preparation (Oxnard PAC). The months of

work and dedication from our Committee Chairs to organize these events are

second to none. I would like to recognize Nick Steffen, Travis Fisher, Louis Chi-

ourn, and Teresa Kistner for their dedication as well as thanking our Board of

Directors for another successful year!

Last, but not least, it is undeniable that our section would be anything without

all the support and participation from our Section’s Vendors and local Mem-

bership. Together we make our section great and define the profession we

have dedicated our time too. Wishing you an incredible year to come and

huge Thank You to all!

If you were unable to attend any of our Sections events in 2019, please join us

in 2020 and keeps your eyes open for future event details!

We recognize and are grateful for Jeff Palacio and the City of Oxnard who have spon-

sored our use of the Oxnard PACC facility for >18 years. OPACC has been a terrific

facility suiting the Tri-Counties Section needs perfectly for many years. Unfortunately

and as some of you know, the OPACC may not be available next year. The Tri-

Counties Section TCP Study Sessions will continue to be scheduled for the first Thurs-

day in December and we will research alternative sites. If you have a suggestion for a

suitable venue that we can check out please let us know!

Last but never least thanks to the board directors who were there to help set-up, reg-

ister attendees, connect technical equipment, teach, set-up lunch, clean-up and share

a few laughs together: Nick Steffen - Past-President; Mark Bennett - Vice President;

Travis Fisher - Treasurer and Dennis Brewer -Two-Year Director. What a great team,

thank-you for your time, talents and most of all for being there!

The 2019 Turkey of the Year was a re-sounding success, with Travis Fisher pre-sented as the new Turkey. Congratula-tions Travis! A great time was had by all at this “Breakfast for Dinner” themed banquet. The induction ceremony was a bit different this year, as no live turkey was used during the ceremony. This will likely be the new norm, in an effort to make sure all CWEA events are green, and public-friendly.

A heartfelt thanks to all those who made this event possible, and a shoutout to all of the Vendors for their continued sup-port!
