We are happy to announce the addi on of our new Office Adinis‐trator, Sandy Bulloch. Yes, her name really is Sandra Bulloch. I told Sandy we are used to having 

famous people on our staff, as Carmen Miranda used to be a pastor here. I asked Sandy what she would like the congrega on to know about her. She said she wants people to know she is open to sugges‐ons or (helpful) cri cism. She is eager to know more about the minis‐

tries of the congrega on and to meet all of you. On a personal level, she is married with a 5 year old daughter. A er 22 years of both ac ve military (Air Force) and civil service, she is re red. Upon re rement from San Diego, she and her husband decided to return to Albuquer‐que, her home town, to be close to family and friends. I find Sandy to be personable, approachable, and very detail oriented. Please stop by the church office and meet Sandy when you get a chance. On a final note, Sandy wants you to know she is thrilled to be working here and excited about becoming part of our church family.   ~Terry Cole  

Adult Faith Forma on A study of “The Greatest Story ‐‐ Paul” began on Reforma on Sunday, Oct. 25, con nues through November 29.  This is the first unit of the series, with the second unit beginning on January 10, 2016.  Since Paul is our name‐sake, it is appropriate that we learn about him and study his wri ngs and journeys.  You are invited to join us each week, except Nov. 22, in the Conference Room at 10:45 a.m. An Advent Inter‐genera onal Event will be held in Fellowship Hall on 

Sunday, November 22.  We will be making Advent wreaths for use dur‐

ing the Advent season (Nov. 29 – Dec. 20).  Informa on about the 

wreaths and how to use them will be available.  If you have ar ficial 

greens you are willing to donate, please bring them to the box in the 

narthex between Nov. 1 and Nov. 15.  It will also be helpful if you will 

sign up to par cipate at the Welcome Center, so we will have adequate 

supplies.   There will be a space for you to note if you have live greens 

to donate, bringing them on Nov. 22.   The wreaths can be made by 

families or individuals, so everyone is welcome to par cipate.

From The Congrega on President By Roger Hein 

The fall colors are in the trees and in the air – only in Albuquer‐que do we get to enjoy such beauty.  With the fall come some major events in our lives together as Saint Paul Lutheran Church.  We are learning to live into our new single service with the op‐portunity for fellowship both before and a er service and our educa on hours following service.  The only constants have been the commi ee togetherness and spiritual refreshment of our service together. Our various commi ees have completed their “ground‐up” budget development process.  The Finance Commi ee has de‐veloped and recommended a balanced budget to the Council for presenta on to the Congrega on.  This was not an easy process; harsh reali es needed to be addressed, and hard decisions were recommended.  Due to dwindling reserves and con nued drop‐off in dona ons, the deficit planning of the past could no longer be con nued, especially if we are to be faithful stewards of our congrega on’s resources.   As promised following last year’s Congrega onal Mee ng to ap‐prove the budget, the budget informa on will be provided to the membership for review well in advance of our 6 December Con‐grega onal Mee ng.   Acceptance of our revised Cons tu on is planned for this mee ng as well.  We will also be elec ng next year’s candidates for Council, the vo ng members to the Synod Assembly, and a new member for the Nomina ng Commi ee.  People interested in any of these opportuni es should contact the Nomina ng Commi ee – Dave Lund, Yvonne Winther, or Bob Mathews.   This year’s Commitment Sunday will be 8 November 2015.  All members of the Congrega on are encouraged to take inventory of their  me, talents, and treasure to determine the best ways they can provide stewardship to our Saint Paul community as we are involved in “Re‐Imagining the Easter Life.”

In November, we will share the results of the Synod‐led Compre‐hensive Ministry Review held in September.  The Council will hold a retreat to digest the affirma ons and recommenda ons from the review in early November and propose a path forward for implementa on. Please feel free to contact me via email (heinsite_nm@msn.com) or via my ever present cell phone ((505) 328‐3688) if there are issues that need to be addressed or visions that need to be ex‐plored. 

“Advocacy 2015” 

The 2015 Lutheran Advocacy Ministry‐New Mexico conference will be held on Saturday, November 7 at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Albuquerque (211 Jefferson NE 87108). The confer‐ence will take place from 9:00 a.m. un l 1 p.m. and the cost is $15 per person, including lunch. Session topics will include advo‐cacy basics, hunger, predatory lending and more. Plan now to a end and learn more about advoca ng for our many neighbors living in poverty.  To register or for more informa on, contact Ruth Hoffman at ruth@lutheranadvocacynm.org or 505.984.8005.   Registra on deadline: November 3.         Ruth

 Long me St. Paul member Janice Kelly, died on October 6, 2015. She was 95. A memorial service will follow at a later date.  

Milli Harte, a member of St. Paul since 1982, died on September 29, 2015. She was almost 89 years old. Milli was the mother of member Nancy Jenkins. A family memorial service is planned for later this year with interment at the Na onal Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM.

The curriculum theme for November at Calico Bu erfly Pre‐school is “Fall and the Harvest”. It is a wonderful  me to consid‐er the changing of the seasons and how we are all affected by God’s changing nature. A representa ve from the Albuquerque Police Department will be coming out on November 4 to talk about “Stranger Danger”. They will show us their police vehicle. It is always a special ac vi‐ty and visit for our children each year. Our Fall Fes val will be on November 5 in the Fellowship Hall. The event is our annual fundraising event. We would like to in‐vite everyone to this fun night.  It is an approved Thrivent fund‐raiser through the “Care Abounds in Communi es”. It is a  me for congrega onal members and Calico families to enjoy fellow‐ship and great food together. Supper will be served beginning at 5:30 P.M.. Barbecue Brisket on a Bun with all the fixings will be served. The cost is Adults: $9.00 and children 3 to 12 years, $5.00. You can make reserva ons by contac ng the school at calico@stpaulabq.org or by calling 242‐4504. Thank you for your con nued support of our ministry. Calico Bu erfly Preschool wants to extend a big thank you to

Albuquerque Interfaith   KEEPING THE FAITH FOR OUR CHILDREN'S FUTURE   Albuquerque Interfaith's Celebra on Dinner will focus on our chil‐dren, their educa on and their welfare. It will be held on Sunday, De‐cember 6, 5 p.m., at Robert F. Kennedy Charter High School (4300 Blake SW) in their new ac vi es building. This is a fund raising event to support the work of Albuquerque Interfaith as it seeks to deal with issues iden fied by member ins tu ons and give voice to the people, while strengthening the ins tu on. Invitees include elected officials and business leaders. We hope that St. Paul members will a end and contribute to these efforts. A raffle will also be held and contribu ons to that raffle will be appreciated (contact Chris na Spahn at 505‐839‐4029).  The monthly mee ng of A.I. will be held on Thursday, Nov. 12, 6 to 7:30 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust St. NE. Discussion will center on the upcoming school bond elec on (Feb. 2, 2016) and the Dinner.  St. Paul is a member ins tu on of A.I. and you are encouraged to par‐cipate in these events. Contact Jeff Sorensen, Else Tasseron or Ivan

Youth Group News  The first mee ng of the newly formed mid/high school youth group was held in October with 7 youth a ending for food, DESSERTS, plan‐ning, and lots of laughter.  We look forward to more a endees next me as we develop this  me of youth community fellowship. Men‐

tors Judy Lalani, Peter and Kathy Boissiere, Dana Mullen, and a couple of other parents enjoyed our  me also. The NEXT gathering is scheduled for Saturday, NOVEMBER 14th 6:00 to 8:30 P.M. in the upstairs youth room. Pizza and salad will be pro‐vided.  Bring beverages or snacks if you like.  Enter North choir room door or call Dana’s cell 980‐7459 for entry or ques ons. If you or your parents did not receive group email reminder about October gather‐ing, let us know so we can get you on the list.

Adopted Families By Kay Schoenefeld 

We received a call for help from a single mom we've known for a few years. She has a Down Syndrome son whose health issues keep her from being able to work full  me. She is in public housing so her rent is reasonable, but it is a real challenge for her to keep up with all of her bills. She is a devoted mother and a hard worker; some mes she just needs some support. We helped with her rent and u lity bills. She was VERY grateful. We picked up two kids' bicycles with some other items. When another single mom we've known for several years came to the storage unit to help clean it, she brought her kids with her to help. Their eyes lit up when they saw the bikes. They are thrilled with them. The mom was also happy to get one or two furniture items from the storage unit. It is a big help to us when she cleans the unit and we are happy to share items with her; she is taking care of several several nieces and neph‐ews as well as her own child. Well, it's November, so it is  me to be thinking about Christmas. We will again be ge ng wish lists from some of our families. We'll put the wishes on our paper tree in the foyer; the tree should be up the Sun‐day before Thanksgiving. If you would like to make a monetary dona‐on for gi  cards, please make checks payable to St. Paul, mark them 

for Adopted Families‐Christmas and place them in the Sunday offering or church office. Thank you in advance for helping our families during what can be a very stressful  me for them. We con nue to have a special need for adult diapers (size medium for women), and we can always use furniture, toilet paper, laundry soap, dish soap, toothpaste, tooth brushes, shampoo, cleaning supplies, TVs, blankets, bath towels, sheets, dishes, silverware, pots and pans, lamps, and anything else useable. If you have large items to donate, call Kay to arrange for pickup; bring small items to the narthex coatroom (by the Adopted Families sign). To donate money, make checks payable to St. Paul, mark them for Adopted Families and place them in the Sunday offering or church office.                                                              Thank you!

Sunflower Orphanage  By Hal Schultz 

At a recent church council mee ng I was asked a very im‐portant ques on.  “How does St. Paul’s connec on to Sunflower Or‐phanage Center (SOC) match up with our mission statement?”  What a great ques on!  I don’t think my answer at the  me did the ques on jus ce and I’ve thought about it a lot since.  We, the community of St. Paul, have a dynamic and challenging mission statement.  SPLC, AS A COMMUNITY OF FAITH IN CHRIST IS:   RADICALLY WELCOMING – I think of a passage in Ma hew, “whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.”  I’ve too o en thought of being welcoming as only being focused on those who walk through our doors. Clearly this does not capture all of what Jesus meant.  I’ve gradually come to realize the “through the door” percep‐on is far too restric ve and now think more in terms of welcoming 

others into the Realm of God, by being who we are and doing what we do.  The SPLC connec on with Sunflower is to me a powerful welcom‐ing event, bringing ac on to our statement.   STRIVES FOR JUSTICE – Our Sunflower children might seem jus fied in thinking there is no jus ce, or if there is it doesn’t apply to me.  Most have no family, all carry a disease they will have for their life me, and each has limited access to educa on and a career.  I’m grateful that the striving of St. Paul members brings a significant element of God’s jus ce to our children. LOVES [OUR] NEIGHBOR [S] AS OURSELVES – Len, the director at Sun‐flower, has o en stated, my government doesn’t care about the poor and homeless children of this country.  There’s plenty of evidence to support his statement.  Cambodia has many street children and is a very dangerous place to be poor and homeless.  Amazingly, our chil‐dren are safe, protected, well fed, and loved, even from half way around the world.   By the  me you read this newsle er I will be in Phnom Penh.  My agenda will be a very busy one.  In addi on to teaching English before and a er school, Len and I will be working on strategies to broaden the funding base for Sunflower.  A group from Australia has recently com‐pleted a three‐year pledge providing financial support, so that leaves a big gap for us regarding funding for day‐to‐day opera ons.  We will

also look at our outreach to the poor children in our neighborhood, seeing how we can also serve them.  And of course there will be some me for laughing, (I get teased a lot), recrea on, and hopefully enjoy‐

ing some good food.  I look forward to sharing more about our children and their individual lives when I return.   Meanwhile I believe the SPLC – SOC connec on is ac vely pu ng our mission statement in ac on. I want to thank all of you who have sup‐ported Sunflower, whether it be through monetary contribu ons, pur‐chase of hand bags, or advising me regarding the strengthening of our connec on.  Many of you have been invaluable, and the number of our church community helping out is growing.   Sunflower children are aware of St. Paul and are coming to know the love of God through you.    

Movie Night By Alicia Ruch‐Flynn 

Please plan to join us for showing of Amadeus on Friday night November 20th.  We will share a pot‐luck dinner, star ng at 6 pm, then being the film around 6:30 in the Fellowship Hall.  Amadeus is a movie about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, told by his peer and secret rival Antonio Salieri ‐ who nar‐

rates the story from the confines of an insane asylum.  This is a movie about confession, envy, and guilt as Mozart's inspired mu‐sic contrasts to his maturity level in a way that galls Salieri.  Mo‐zart's music provides the backdrop for this excellent movie that won 8 Oscars in 1984.  Hope to see everyone there! 

Holidays at Camino de Vida By Ivan Westergaard  

THANKSGIVING MEAL: Our La no mission in the South Valley will offer turkey and all the trimmings to folks from the neighbor‐hood, as well as those from their congrega on, on Thanksgiving Day, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dona ons from Lutheran and Presby‐terian congrega ons are making this possible, with plans to feed around 300 people. Desserts are s ll needed. If you can help, please call Ruth Silva, 1‐787‐342‐5104. Also, if you can help that

CHRISTMAS PARTY: This annual event draws close to 200 from the congrega on and the south valley. St. Paul members, in the past, have generously donated toys and gi  cards to be given to the children, so we asking again for your help. A box will be placed in the foyer to receive your gi s ($10 gi  cards are pre‐ferred). Special music from the children's music program will be featured. The event takes place on December 6, so gi s need to be in the box by Nov. 22.  Thank you for your con nued support of this thriving joint minis‐try effort of the ELCA and the Presbyterian Church USA.

 The Council: Ra fied the Personnel Commi ee’s decision to hire Sandra 

M. Bulloch for the posi on of Office Administrator. Heard that seven youth and five adults had a good  me at 

the October 17th pizza, games and get acquainted gathering.  The next youth gathering is on November 14th. 

Appreciated Finance Commi ee Chair Linda Roe’s explana‐ons regarding the proposed 2016 budget for St. Paul, and 

a er much discussion, Approved presen ng the 2016 budget to the congrega on 

for adop on at the December 6th Congrega on Mee ng. Learned that the Nomina ng Commi ee had been no fied of 

the Council posi ons to be filled for 2016. Received the Comprehensive Ministry Review Report in prep‐

ara on for the November 7th Council Retreat. Authorized the Property Commi ee to work with the Finance 

Commi ee in dra ing building use policy. Designated the Property Commi ee to develop a method for 

scheduling those authorized to open and close the church building, as well as appropriate procedures in light of our new worship and educa on schedule. 

Organized the stewardship plans for the next weeks to in‐clude a le er, pledge cards,  me and talent sheets, “Mission Moments” by members of the congrega on, and Commit‐ment Sunday on November 8th.
