The JV “Give” Project

This summer, Akua Andoh and her family visited their homeland, Ghana, for 2 weeks to see family and to catch up with old friends. They were having a wonderful time, going to the coastal beaches and enjoying the culture and its best delicacies. Early morning on July 8, Akua & her family went to the busy open marketplace to shop. Suddenly, a little boy approached them and asked, “Can you please take me to your KRXVH�VR�,�FDQ�OLYH�ZLWK�\RX"µ�6XUSULVHG�DQG�FRQIXVHG��$NXD·V�PRWKHU��1DRPL�EHJDQ�DVNLQJ�KLP�TXHVWLRQV��$V�WKH�OLWWOH�ER\�DQG�KLV�EURWKHU�WROG�WKHLU�VWRU\��WKH�$QGRK·V�listened in awe. Owura, 9, and Kwasi, 12, had been abandoned by their mother after WKHLU�\RXQJHU�EURWKHU�ZDV�ERUQ��7KH\� OLYHG�ZLWK� WKHLU�PRWKHU·V� IULHQG�XQWLO��\HDUV�ago, when the woman died and they had no where else to go. They were homeless and made the marketplace their home. Their only means of support was carrying groceries in the marketplace.

7KH�$QGRK·V�ZHUH�VR� WRXFKHG�E\� WKH�ER\V·�VWRU\� WKDW� WKH\�ZDQWHG� WR�GR�DQ\WKLQJ�they could to help them. Naomi contacted the local radio station, asking for help to ORFDWH�WKH�ER\V·�IDPLO\��EXW�LW�TXLFNO\�EHFDPH�FOHDU�WKDW��WKH\�KDG�QR�RQH��1H[W��WKH\�FRQWDFWHG�WKH�&KLOGUHQ·V�6HUYLFHV�'HSDUWPHQW��ZKHUH�WKH�ER\V�ZHUH�WUDQVIHUUHG�WR�DQ�RUSKDQDJH��7RGD\��WKH�ER\V�DUH�DW�WKH�RUSKDQDJH�DQG�WKH�$QGRK·V�FRPPXQLFDWH�ZLWK� WKHP�ZHHNO\��7KH�ER\V�DUH�KDSS\�DQG�GRLQJ�ZHOO��7KH�$QGRK·V�DUH�FXUUHQWO\�trying to adopt the boys and bring them to America. Akua and her mother know that God directed them to be in that Ghana marketplace for such a time to meet these boys. “They have won our hearts,” said Akua. “We were there for a reason. Thank God,” said Naomi.Akua came back and shared what had happened on her trip with the Chosen JV students. The JV students were so moved by this story that they immediately wanted to do something for them as well. Sage Carrillo asked, “Can we help, Pastor Annette?” Then the JV students came up with a plan - The Give Project. The plan LV�WR�FROOHFW�JHQWO\�XVHG�DQG�QHZ�FKLOGUHQ·V�FORWKLQJ�DQG�RWKHU�LWHPV�WR�VHQG�WR�WKH�

boys and the orphanage. There will be a collection table in Chosen JV all month long, which will be shipped at the end of November, along with letters and pictures of our youth group. The JV students are also going to raise the money by themselves to pay for the postage. “We DUH�VR�H[FLWHG�WR�GR�WKLV�µ�.D\OHVH�-RKQ�%URZQ�VDLG��´$NXD·V�VWRU\� LV�our story now.”
