Our Lady of Guadalupe Mass/Celebration will be held at Ss. Peter & Paul Cathedral Friday, Dec. 11 La Celebración de la Virgen de Guadalupe será en la Catedral Santos Pedro & Pablo, vier. 11 de dic. Each year we celebrate the Feast of Our Blessed Mother, Patroness of the Americas,

with a Mass in her honor. Please join our Parish Celebration as we honor and remember

the miracle that happened nearly 500 years ago. Our Blessed Mother came to Mexico in

a time of need and left behind the image of herself so that she might unite the land and

bring all those around closer to her son. As we learn more about this miracle, we realize

that this message was not only for those in Mexico but for all of the Americas! This

year’s celebration takes place at Ss. Peter and Paul Cathedral beginning with a Rosary at

8:00pm. Free, secure parking is available in the Catholic Center parking lot across from

the cathedral. All are welcome!

un tiempo de necesidad y dejó su imágen plasmada para que pudiera estar unida a la

Thank You!

As part of the Connected in the Spirit process that has been happening throughout the Archdiocese, St. Monica is in a partnership with St. Michael and St. Gabriel parishes here in the West Deanery. While we have certain projects that we are working on together, I would especially like to thank our cohort parishes for all the help they have given to us since our fire in the narthex. Their pastors and staffs have been very gracious in letting us use their churches for funerals, weddings and other services when needed. I know they are both very active parishes in their own rights, so I am especially grateful to them for the sacrifices they have made to help us. While not part of our cohort per se, Marian University and Crooked Creek Baptist Church have also been very kind in letting us use their spaces for meetings and Masses. There are many others who have sent kind words, made small donations, and volunteered with all sorts of things behind the scenes to keep our parish running smoothly. Finally, I would be remiss in not thanking our own staff, who continues to do a great job in keeping the process moving forward, being flexible with meeting spaces, and communicating details to all of us in the parish. Como parte del proceso Conectados en el Espíritu que ha estado llevando a cabo a través de la Arquidiócesis, Sta. Mónica está trabajando junto con las parroquias de San Miguel y San Gabriel en el Decanato Oeste. Mientras tenemos ciertos proyectos en los que trabajaremos juntos, deseo agradecer especialmente a los diferentes equipos centrales de las parroquias por toda la ayuda que nos han brindado después del incendio en el nártex. Sus párrocos y personal han sido muy amables al permitirnos usar sus Iglesias para funerales, bodas, y otros servicios cuando ha sido necesario. Yo sé que son parroquias muy activas así que estoy especialmente agradecido con ellos por el sacrificio que han hecho para ayudarnos. Y aunque no ha sido parte de estos equipos…La Universidad Marian y la Iglesia Bautista Cooked Creek también han sido muy amables al permitirnos usar sus edificios para reuniones y Misas. Hay muchos otros que nos han enviado palabras de aliento, han hecho pequeñas donaciones, y han sido voluntarios en muchas cosas detrás de los escenarios para poder mantener nuestra parroquia al corriente. October 27 Trip to St. Meinrad Viaje a San Meinrad, 27 de Oct. Our group enjoyed a wonderful trip as we toured the church, attended noon prayers, caught up our with St. Monica seminarians, visited the book shop and gift store and celebrated Mass at Monte Cassino Shrine.

THE PRIESTHOOD

ABOUT THE MINISTRY

A priest is a consistent reminder at all times and in all places

that people are not limited to their experience on earth. A priest

is a witness to the truth that heaven is not merely a fairy tale,

and the priest's life and choices are evidence of his belief that

heaven is a reality worth dedicating one's entire earthly life to.

SPIRITUAL GIFTS REQUIRED: A dedication to the life to come,

with a single-minded devotion to this work, bearing witness to a

world in need of authentic meaning.

REQUIREMENTS: A baptized, Catholic man who is called to the

priesthood by God. The Church sees herself as bound by the fact

that Jesus chose men exclusively to be present at the Last

Supper for the institution of the priesthood. St. John Paul II

stated in 1994 that a priest represents Christ Himself. Christ is

the bridegroom to his bride, the church (CCC 796, 1563). Being a

priest is a special service that also makes demands on a man in

his gender-specific role as male and father. In God's sight, man

and woman have the same dignity, but different duties and

charisms. As we see in Mary, women play a role in the Church

that is no less central than the masculine role, but it is feminine.

TIME COMMITMENT: Lifetime. Through the sacrament of Holy

Orders, a priest is permanently configured to Christ (CCC 1582, 1583).

A priest lives his life through a daily routine of designated

prayers, saying Mass, and Anointing the Sick at any time.

HOW THIS MINISTRY MAKES A DIFFERENCE: The priest

manifests God's presence in the world and brings that presence

to people in real and effective ways, mainly through the

sacraments. The priest stands in "the place of Christ" (in persona

Christi Capitis CCC 1548) when consecrating the bread and wine into

the body and blood of Christ and when forgiving sins. A priest is

a reminder to the world that this life is not all that there is. TO

Congratulations! Congratulations and blessings to our 170 students who received the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time on Saturday November 14. Sending St. Monica Teens to the Pro-Life

March One of the premier events in the pro-life movement is the annual Pro-Life March on January 22nd in Washington, DC. Each year our Respect Life Ministry helps interested HS kids get to the march by paying part of their expenses. This year we are encouraging St. Monica parishioners to support our kids by becoming a trip sponsor. For a donation of $50, about ¼ of the total cost, you can become a sponsor. We will hook you up with a particular student who knows that you are supporting him/her and you will receive a trip review when that student returns. Interested? St. Vincent de Paul Turkey Donations Unfortunately, because of the difficulty in collecting and storing turkeys for our annual Thanksgiving Baskets this year after the fire, the St. Vincent de Paul Society is NOT requesting or taking donations of turkeys this Thanksgiving. Instead, we have arranged to give our families Gift Cards they can use to purchase their own turkeys. If you would like to contribute to this, you can place your donation in a regular envelope marked "St. Vincent de Paul" and put it into the regular collection basket on Sundays. Thanksgiving Day Mass On Thanksgiving Day, November 26, we will have a special Mass at 9:00 AM to offer thanks to God for all of the blessing he has given us throughout the past year. Service Award! Congratulations to Drs. Marianne and Frank Price who received the Community Service Award at the Celebrating Catholic School Values celebration on October 26! They are founders of the Price Vision Group and also work on the Cornea Research Foundation of America. They view their lives as a payback for their Catholic education. ACERCA DEL MINISTERIO

Un sacerdote es un constante recordatorio en todo momento y en

todos los lugares que las personas no son limitadas en su experiencia

en la tierra. Un sacerdote es un testigo de que el verdadero cielo no es

una precisamente un cuento de hadas, y la vida y decisiones del

sacerdote son evidentes en su creeencia que el cielo es una realidad y

que vale la pena vivirlo aquí en la tierra.

DONES ESPIRITUALES REQUERIDOS: Una dedicación a la vida

por venir, teniendo en cuenta la devoción a su trabajo, siendo

testigos en este mundo necesitado de un auténtico significado.

REQUISITOS: Un hombre Católico, bautizado, es llamado al

sacerdocio por Dios. La Iglesia se ve a sí misma obligada por el hecho

de que Jesús escogió exclusivamente a hombres para estar presentes

en la Última Cena para la institución del sacerdocio. San Juan Pablo II

declaró en 1994 que un sacerdote representa a Cristo mismo. Cristo es

el novio de la novia, la Iglesia (CCC 796, 1563). El ser un sacerdote es un

servicio especial que también demanda en un hombre en su género

específico en su papel de hombre y padre. A los ojos de Dios, el

hombre y la mujer tienen la misma dignidad, pero diferentes tareas y

carismas. Como lo vemos en María, la mujer que jugó un papel

importante en la Iglesia que no es menos que el papel masculino, sino

femenino.

TIEMPO DE COMPROMISO: De por vida. A través del sacramento de

las Órdenes Sagradas, un sacerdote es permanentemente configurado

diaria de oraciones designadas, decir la Misa, y ungir a los enfermos en

Donaciones de Pavos para San Vicente de Paul

Desafortunadamente, debido a la dificultad para recolectar y guardar pavos para nuestras canastas del Día de Acción de Gracias este año después del incendio, la Sociedad de San Vicente de Paul NO está pidiendo o tomando donaciones de pavos esta vez. En esta ocasión, les daremos a las familias tarjetas pre-pagadas que pueden usar para comprar sus propios pavos. Misa del Día de Acción de Gracias En el Día de Acción de Gracias, 26 de noviembre, tendremos una Misa especial a las 9:00 AM para agradecer a Dios por todas las bendiciones que Él nos ha dado a través de año. La Misa incluirá una bendición especial de las comidas que usted usará más tarde para la cena de Acción de Gracias. ¡Todos están invitados! El Hijo de Dios escogió nacer en una familia humana, en un oscuro pueblo de la periferia del Imperio Romano.
