Exalted Ruler’s Message

It has been six months since I became your Exalted Ruler and it continues to be a privilege. I would like to thank eve-ryone for all the help and support. We have a great group of dedicated Elks that make this big charitable machine we call the Lodge run smoothly.

On Friday the 11th, we honor all our veterans that have served our country; past and present. Never forget those who fought for our freedom! The first Saturday in December we team up with the USO, Grumman and the merchants of St Augustine. We open the town to active duty military and their families with a stop by the Elks for lunch. If the weather is good we should expect a good turnout. Contact Kathryn Helhoski if you would like to volunteer.

On Thanksgiving Day the PER’s will be in charge of the tra-ditional Thanksgiving dinner. Watch for tickets to go on sale soon. It is limited seating, so don’t delay.

The committee for the new Tiki bar has had some produc-tive meetings with the engineer and we should have some drawings out soon to share with our members. The commit-tee has come up with a design that is similar to what we cur-rently have now but will have additional seating. The Tiki bar design could make the facility compatible for other outside functions too!

My Elk of the month is Mary Jo Godfrey. She can be seen regularly in the kitchen volunteering or out on the dance floor dancing with the boys. Thanks Mary Jo.

Remember that Charity is the greatest of all virtues and that it should ever rule us in our hearts and in our lives.

John Gebert, Exalted Ruler

From the House

Ladies and Gentleman in spite of our best efforts to bring more services to you, our customers, I am sorry to report that due to different circumstances our sales have been down in both the Bar and Kitchen. It is my job to ensure that in times like this we adjust in operations to help minimize and/or elimi-nate any losses. We are not alone; many companies are ex-periencing the same issues. Because of this we must cut back on staffing and our cost of goods; please note the fol-lowing changes:

Full Service Dining on Friday Discontinued

We are reducing the staffing on Friday and simplifying the menu to reduce cost of goods. Food prices have climbed dramatically over the past several months. We will now be offering one special of the day that will change each Friday. There will be no waitress service I am sorry to say; you will purchase your meal at the bar and pickup your food at the Kitchen window.

Food Every Day at Reduced Hours

We will continue to offer the “Bar Menu” on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 5 to 7pm only. The Bar Menu will be available on Sunday from 2-6pm for the Lounge and Tiki Bar. Monday's Pasta Day will remain in effect. And finally, Sunday Breakfast from 9-11am will remain in effect. These services will be monitored closely and more changes may be required in the future.

FREE Dance Lessons Suspended

Jim & Peggy White will be out of state until the first of the year. We hope they will start up the new year with a new season of dancing for all.

Tiki Bar Open on Sunday Closed on Saturday

Tiki Bar will be closed on Saturday effective immediately.

This may be the last month the Tiki Bar is open on Sunday before we close it for major renovations. I think it will be worth the wait as we improve the Tiki Bar and increase seat-ing and visibility for the next season.

Be a Ready Rider and Help our Lodge Get It Done!

In the Old West, a posse was made up of Very Busy citizens who sometimes

were able to get away from the daily challenges of survival to assist in a neces-

sary community objective. The ELKS Ready Riders are busy living their lives

but are willing to be approached when certain activities are in need of assistance.

The Ready Riders are asked to check activities of interest such as decorating for

parities, assisting food services, etc.

Elks Ready Riders are never obligated to assist if contacted. By filling out the

form you are only stating an interest and May Be Contacted to find out more

about how you are looking to volunteer and be part of the Ready Riders!

ENF Corner

10K Charity Supernite February 25th 2017

Each year we hold the 10K Charity Supernite on the last Saturday night of

February. All the proceeds from this event go to support the charities of St

Augustine Lodge #829. One half of the funds raised support our donations

to Elks National Foundation work such as ENF scholarships, Veteran pro-

grams, community grants, and state projects. I have spoken of these pro-

jects over the last few months in this column. The remaining half of the

funds raised are designated to our local community charities.

The invitations to the 10K Charity Supernite go out at the end of Novem-

ber based on past ticketholders to this event. Existing ticketholders must

have their tickets paid by January 5th of 2017. After that date, remaining

unpaid tickets go to individuals on the waiting list for the 2017 event. On-

ly 210 tickets are sold.

This year, no invitations will be sent out to members who are delinquent on

their 2016-2017 dues. If you have previously held a ticket and have not

paid your membership dues, outstanding dues must be paid before payment

for the 10K can be accepted.

Due to the number of Elk members requesting tickets to the event, we will

no longer be sending renewals to non-Elk members. If you have non- Elk

friends who have previously attend the event, you will need to invite them

as your guest and the ticket must be in your name. If you have any ques-

tions, please contact me.

If you wish to be on the waiting list for opening tickets, please email your name, Lodge membership number, email, mailing address and telephone number. We will then add your name to the list as it has been received and notify you when tickets are available for you.

Fraternally,

Bob Kershner, PER
