WELCOME SACRAMENT ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Mission of Holy Family Catholic Parish is to make God known to our parish family and community and

to foster growth in our relationships with God and each other through active participation in the ministries of

celebration, worship, education, and support of those in need.

Time Talent Treasure

PILLAR #1: Tim Dieringer

Stewardship Focus: TIME

Pillars of Stewardship We pause to reflect on those who have given so much of their time to our parish and other charitable organizations. They are great role models to all of us about proclaiming God’s love through the giving of their time, talent and treasure. Although Tim Dieringer, who passed away last August, could easily fit into all three categories, we are highlighting his devo-tion of time to our Holy Family community. Tim was a lifetime parishioner of Holy Family Parish. Attending Holy Family Grade School, Jesuit High and Gonzaga, he grew in his faith to be a person who was truly a “man for others”, in his Church, the Catholic community and our neighborhood community. At Holy Family he became sacristan “par excellence”. Tim was a steward of our liturgies—he cared for all things related to the church and altar. The list is endless: setting up for Mass (weekend, daily, funerals, special de-

votions, etc.) , keeping the pews straightened and changing out the

missalettes and song books annually and seasonally keeping altar breads and altar wine in supply ordering candles and changing them as needed cleaning the candle holders—trimming the wicks emptying wilted flowers and the other wastebaskets recycling when appropriate and more ……

Tim also gave his time as a “steward of creation” by daily watering the plants along Woodstock Boulevard.

Tim’s time was God’s time and was given generously to all as he served his God.

Gospel Reflection Nov. 1st ♥ 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

♥ Mark 12:38-44 The first reading from Kings and the Gospel from Mark tell stories of widows. Both widows were poor, but generous. And both believed that they were doing what God wanted them to do. Think of a time when you gave something to some-

one. Were you generous with your gift? Did you give as much as you could, or did you give a little so that you would have lots left over for yourself?

When you have money, how do you spend it? Do

you remember to include God (the church) in your giving?

If you were one of the characters in today’s gospel

story, what would Jesus say about you?

St. Martin’s Day Lantern Walk & Coat Drive November 11th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm in Celebration Hall

St. Martin of Tours started out as a Roman soldier then was baptized as an adult and became a monk. It is understood that he was a kind man who led a quiet and simple life. The best known legend of his life is that he once cut his cloak in half to share with a beggar during a snowstorm, to save the beggar from dying in the cold. That night he dreamed that Jesus was wearing the half-cloak. Martin heard Jesus say to the angels, “Here is Martin, the Roman soldier who is not baptized; he has clothed me.” His feast day, November 11th, is known as Martinmas and celebrated in many different countries. Holy Family celebrates with a lantern walk and donating coats to the needy. Please join us in making a lantern, donating clean, gently used coats and mittens/hats/scarves, and hearing more about St. Martin of Tours. Refreshments will be served.

Memorial Altar Once again, we will dedicate the whole month of Novem-ber to our loved ones who have passed away. Our me-morial altar, dedicated to honor their memory, will be on display in church beginning with All Saints Day. Please bring in a small photo or memento of your deceased loved one to display on the altar. We will honor those members of our parish who passed away this past year by having family members offer a candle for them in our weekend Masses during the month of November. Please contact Peggy at the Parish Center to sign up for your Mass.

YOUTH & YOUNG ADULTS

Holy Family Catholic School Did you know? Holy Family Catholic School intentionally builds community amongst its student body. We have orga-nized our students into “Family Groups,” groups of mixed-grade level students, led by 8

th graders, that gather and com-

plete activities as a team. For October’s Family Group activity, students used recycled materials and created monsters. Stu-dents at each grade level had a role in creating the monsters, for example, one student’s job was to choose where and how many eyes the monster received, while another student got to name the monster, etc… Kudos to the 8

th grade students who

led the activity independently, and the entire community, who provided a huge supply of recycled materials for kids to use.

According to 2012 figures most of the children live in sub-Saharan Africa and were infected by their HIV-positive moth-ers during pregnancy, childbirth or breastfeeding. Over 700 children become newly infected with HIV each day. Preg-nant women living with HIV who receive the most effective drug regimens (as recommended by World Health Organiza-tion) prevent mother-to-child transmission of the virus.

Thanksgiving is Coming! Thanksgiving Day Mass 9am

Thanksgiving Day is a very special day in the lives of Holy Family Vincentians. It is the one day of the year that we take over all the jobs at Mass, except, of course, that of Father Rodel. We get to serve you. We also get to ask you to bring an offering of food or money or both. This year we hope your food offering would include jam or jelly, soup, dishwashing liquid, and toiletries.

Mark Thanksgiving Day Mass on your calendars and let us serve you.

Thank you, Penny O’Connell SVDP President
