Its all. I you are a hunter, this
is your time. Your time to enjoy crisp
mornings on a ridge as dawn breaks,
to take in evenings at camp around
a ire under a shimmering night sky,
to put meat on the table.
his is your time to shine, to use
the privilege that allows us to hunt. Its also the season when we wear our
ethics on our sleeve or the world to
see.
Ethics? What, you might say,
does ethics have to do with hunting.
Plenty.
Ethics is our moral compass to
whats right and whats wrong; even i
something is legal it can sometimes
be wrong.
ake, or example, air chase, the
idea that we give animals a chance,
that in air chase theres a air chance
the hunter sometimes kills his preybut oten doesnt. I you doubt that,
you are either lucky or a nonhunter.
Each generation o hunters has
developed greater technology and,
as a result, had to recalibrate their
ethical compass.
Once upon time it wasnt
considered air to use scopes on
riles. Now, not only does nearly
everyone use rile scopes, now there
are scopes that read out the distance
to the target.
Range inders and global
positioning satellite (GPS) systemsare available. hey are all advantages
and legal. But each hunter must
decide what is too much o an
advantage.
Our pockets ill with gadgets as
our pocketbooks empty. And to what
purpose? Does the venison taste
better?
Hunters need to be able to look
at themselves in the mirror without
hesitation each morning.
O course i something is illegal,
we dont even have to cross the
Bridge Ethical.
Remember that property that
was open last year and closed this
year? Maybe, as the Bard once wrote,
the ault lies not in our stars but inourselves.
Sometimes posted land comes
rom problems like gates let open
and cattle out. Other times land
is closed because o bullet holes in
irrigation pivots or water tanks.
It doesnt happen everyw here
or with every landowner but it
does happen occasionally. And as
grandma said, a ew bad apples ruin
everything.
We hunters need to remember
that we have been given a great git
by our ancestors; publicly entrustedwildlie that oten inhabits private
property. How we use, or abuse, that
git will say a lot about whether our
grandchildren continue to enjoy our
hunting tradition.
And speaking o gits, we are
taught to say thank you when
someone gives us something. I its
been awhile since you thanked a
landowner, perhaps this is the year.
How about thanking the spirit
o that animal laying at your eet or
giving up its lie so you may have
something to eat? hink about this as all deepens
and we enjoy the privileges o an
American hunter. And perhaps
ask yoursel, what will you do as a
member o our collective hunting
community to encourage the uture
o hunting?

THERES A NEW
AIRLINE IN TOWN!
Affordable Boat Act Te government has just passed a new law called:Te affordable boat act declaring that every citizen
MUS purchase a new boat, by April 2014. Teseaffordable boats will cost an average o $24,000-
$124,000 each. Tis does not include taxes, trailers, towing ees, insurance, uel, docking and storage ees,
maintenance or repair costs.Tis law has been passed, because until now,
typically only financially responsible and workingpeople have been able to purchase boats. Tis new
law ensures that every American can now have anaffordable boat o their own, because everyone is
entitled to a boat.In order to make sure everyone purchases an
affordable boat, the costs o owning a boat will increaseon average o 250-400% per year. Tis way, working
taxpayers will pay more or something that other
people dont want or cant afford to maintain. But to beair, people who cant afford to maintain their boat will
be regularly fined and children (under the age o 26)can use their parents boats to party on until they turn
27; then they must purchase their own boat.I you already have a boat, you can keep yours (just
kidding; no you cant). I you dont want or dont need aboat, you are required to buy one anyhow. I you reuse
to buy one, you will be fined until you purchase one orace imprisonment. For those that cannot afford one,
they will get a ree boat with a monthly check or allownership costs listed above at taxpayer expense.
Failure to use the boat will also result in fines.People living in the desert, inner cities or areas with no
access to lakes are not exempt. Age, motion sickness, experience, knowledge nor lack o desire are acceptable
excuses or not using your boat.A government review board will decide
everything, including; when, where, how ofen andor what purposes you can use your boat along with
how many people can ride your boat and determinei one is too old or healthy enough to be able to use
their boat. Tey will also decide i your boat has outlived its useulness or i you must purchase specific
accessories, or a newer and more expensive boat.(Cash or Clunkers guidelines will be used).
Government officials are exempt rom this newlaw. I they want a boat, they and their amilies can
obtain boats ree, at the expense o tax payers. Unions,
special interest and major donors are also exempt.
