LIFE TOGETHER Dear Friends, Welcome to November with big doings. This is the weekend of the Diocesan 50th Anniversary Mass at the River Center 3:00pm. Even if you didn’t get a ticket before hand you can still come to the River Center and be a part of this. There will be many parishioners there joining people from across the diocese. Remember, because of the 50th Anniversary Mass, no 5:30pm this week only. We are also beginning our of Parish Mission, so welcome this weekend Fr. RB Williams. Fr. RB is a uniquely talented man full of stories and insights into how we can grow in holiness day by day. I’ve known him for many years and I think he will do an excellent job inspiring you. Try to make some if not all of the Parish Mission. You won’t be disappointed, you will discover that the fruitfulness of this effort will be displayed long into the new year. Thanks to all who worked so hard on both the Gator Fest and the Parish Family Fest. I thank especially the members of the parish Community Life Commission for their collaborative work with the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Daughters of America, Men’s Club and Christ Renews His Parish Men’s Retreat Team. The parish and I are grateful. Next weekend, we will welcome Abbot Justin Brown from St. Joseph Abbey who will speak about the work of the Benedictines at Covington, and their unique contribution to our diocese. Its our turn to offer them support. November brings a month of special focus on Social Responsibility efforts within the parish and Diocese of Baton Rouge. Our parish is joining with the Knights of Columbus in attempting to purchase a mobile ultra-sound machine to be used in a mobile unit which seeks to counsel women against having an abortion. Recently St. George and Our Lady of Mercy have both given to purchase ultra sound machines for Caring To Love Ministries and St. Patrick has given a machine to Family Resource in Walker, La. Why do this? Clinical statistics show that 83 % of women at pro-life clinics decide to carry their baby to term after seeing their image of their living child by way of ultra-sound machines. A new ultrasound machine costs $25,000. The Knights of Columbus national office has been in the fore front of this cause for many years and will offer help in this effort. The pro life clinic has $5,000 and the KC

national council will offer $11,500. Our parish Social Responsibility will offer $4000 which leaves $4,500 plus tax for the parish. So I will ask you in the near future to consider giving to this effort. I think its important and it will bear good fruit. Pancakes for Claire is coming, Sunday morning November 13th! Each year the US Bishop’s Catholic Campaign for Human Development offers us an opportunity to support this national effort to assist people in poverty by giving them a hand-up. Watch for information about this national campaign. Have yourself a good November week. Love,

St. Jean Vianney Parish will hold its first annual Pirate Party on Saturday, Nov. 12th, from 9-11am in Fr. Engels Hall. There will be fun, games, and a treasure hunt for boys between the ages of three and eight, and their favorite grownup. The $15 registration fee for the boys (grownups attend for free) will help to cover the cost of the day’s activities. Volunteers are also needed to help with the event. To register, or to sign up to volunteer, please visit the church or school website, or contact [email protected].

Thank you to everyone who made the Christ

Renews his parish women’s retreat a wonderful success!

A CALL TO THE SERVANTS OF GOD: Renewed In The Spirit

The Our Father and Other Meditations As our parish begins the Stewardship of Prayer portion of our annual Total Stewardship program, we invite you to

think about your own participation. You may be among the many who pray regularly, using the celebrated meditations shared by generations of faithful Catholic parishioners. For example, you may pray the Lord’s model prayer, the Our Father. From the time of the Apostles, followers of Christ the world over have repeated this influential prayer. You may also pray the Daily Rosary and offer Novena prayers. These intentions are vital connections to our Catholic heritage, and they help frame our commitments to pray faithfully today. Please join others in prayer.
