FROM OUR PASTOR Todays first reading from the prophetIsaiah is the first Scripture reading oAdvent, the first of a new liturgica

year, and the first of the three yearcycle of readings (we are once again iYear A, after concluding Year C las

week). The prophet declares Come, let us climb the LORD'S mountain, the house of the God of Jacob, that he may instruct us in his ways, and wmay walk in his paths. For the Jews a pilgrimage to the holy city Jerusalem, set high on Mount Zion, was always a moment of grace; andthe reading is echoed in the Psalm: I rejoiced because they said to me, Wwill go up to the house of the LORD. Now, at the beginning of a neliturgical year, we, too, should have a sense of climbing the Lords mounttaking the first step on a pilgrimage which leads us to the Lords house; this season of Advent is designed to give us the best of starts with devotiobooks available after todays Masses and a number of special occasahead.

Its a wonderful way to quiet the mind and enter into the spirit of Advent.

Parish Mission with a DifferenceParish Mission with a DifferenceParish Mission with a DifferenceParish Mission with a Difference During the Advent season when we think othe Holy Family, the annual Mission will concentrate on strengthening parish families in three key areas: helping young (and not so young) peoto make good friendships and to find the right partners; helping us all to dwith stress; and helping families to meet the challenge of parenting. we will have our usual Advent Liturgy of Reconciliation when our ownvisiting priests will provide individual confession and absolution. This shbe an event for all the family!

As I did last year, I appeal to you to make Advent a time of specireverence. Often before Mass the church is pretty noisy as people greet eaother - even on weekdays. Lets try to use the time before Mass to be quito speak to God ourselves and allow others to focus their minds on HiThen, after Mass, united in the Body of Christ, we can speak to each othAs the Psalm response for this first Sunday of Advent says: Let us rejoicing to the house of the Lord!
