November 25th, 2012 Feast of Christ the King Introduction: Hero-worship and king-making are usually examples of cultural idolatry. We constantly invest mere human beings with the power and status of gods. We grant them value beyond that of ordi- nary mortals. There is danger in conferring on any- one such status. The only eternal king is Christ who dies for the sins of the whole world Reading I: The vision of the prophet Daniel was clearly not of this world. He saw “one like the son of man” coming from heaven and receiving domin- ion, glory, and kingship over all things. Unlike kings and rulers of this world, his kingship will never be destroyed, and his dominion is everlasting. Reading II: The book of Revelation presents an exalted view of Jesus Christ as the King of Kings. There are two important implications of this view of Christ. All earthly kings are limited by the authority of Christ. But earthly kings are legitimated by the authority of Christ if they honor his values and pur- poses. Gospel: Jesus did not deny his kingship when he was confronted by Pilate. But he refused to be identified with any human race or nation. He admit- ted that his kingdom was not of this world. He came to this world, not as a king but as a servant, to proclaim the truth of the kingdom of heaven. Closing Thought: Christ the King reigns incognito in our world. He does not live in palaces. His does not display great wealth. He does not wield political power. He rules through the cry of the poor for justice, the cry of the oppressed for freedom, the cry of the despised for acceptance, the cry of the weak for strength. Christ the king is on the side of those who struggle for dignity and opportunity. WORD OF LIFE: “Relying only on charitable donations, the Christ-centered response of a pregnancy center is able to accomplish much even beyond saving a child’s life, a child who is created in God’s image and likeness and is destined for eternal life. No small thing! The daily work and ministry of the pregnancy center also channels God’s love to the child’s parents and family, bringing about an opportunity of evangelization, healing, restoration, better parenting, more marriages and adop- tions, and in the long term, healthier families.” CHOIR PRACTICE FOR CHRISTMAS WILL BE- GIN WEDNESDAY, NOV. 28 TH , AT 7:00 P.M. Come have fun, food and entertainment on this special evening! The holy season of Advent is a special time set aside in the Church calendar to prepare for the coming of the Lord. It (Advent) is a season of hope, of expecta- tion, and preparing for the Lord’s coming at the end of time; and also more immediately preparing for the commemoration of his coming on December 25th. Advent in itself is not a penitential season as that of Lent. We wear the blue vestments during Advent to show the difference between the 2 Liturgical Seasons.
