Advent Bible Study Follow Me: Meeting Jesus in the Gospel of John

Being Catholic takes more than simply believing in God or doing what he asks of us. Jesus wants you to be more than just a believer - he wants you to be his disciple and friend. To help you answer this call to deeper friendship with Christ, St. Joseph Parish will begin Follow Me: Meeting Jesus in the Gospel of John starting on November 28th at 9:30 am and the following 3 Sundays of Advent. We will finish in January. For more information or to register, contact Mary at 715-573-0430 or email: [email protected]. You will not only benefit personally from being part of this study; you will also help us to grow in fellowship as a parish as we grow closer to Christ together. Participants of Follow Me will receive a workbook and will meet every week to view an engaging video presentation followed by a time of lively group discussion and fellowship. The eight 30-minute videos, presented by Dr. Edward Sri, will guide you through the Gospel of John. Dr. Sri will explain how Christ’s encounters with others in the Gospel are examples of how he lovingly and persistently calls each of us to a more intimate and life-changing relationship with him.

The Parish Pastoral Council, at the last meeting, Oct 18, 2021 planned a celebration Mass in honor of St. Joseph on Saturday, March 19, 2022 with an 11 am Mass followed by a luncheon.

Changes to Mass

Question: Why do we make changes in the Mass? Some seem so small and unimportant. Are they really necessary?

Answer: The celebration of the Eucharist is at the heart of our identity as Catholics. Our purpose as a Church community revolves around the Eucharist. Every-thing we are and everything we do is measured not only by how well we celebrate, but also by how well we live the sacrament. If that is so, then we as a community will always strive to celebrate the Mass as best we can. The reasons for some changes might seem more obvious than others, but there is a reason behind each one. The General Instruction of the Roman Missal is the introduction to the Missal that contains all the prayers for the celebration of the Mass. The Order of Mass we use now was issued in 1975 and, as often happens over the course of years, some questions have come up about the proper way of doing some things and whether or not other practices are acceptable. These changes clarify some things and make the celebration of the Mass more meaningful for everyone. The opportunity is presented to us to better learn and understand each part of the Mass, which in turn should help us deepen our appreciation for its beauty and meaning. We will be a better Church if we have a clearer un-derstanding and knowledge of Who and what we celebrate. ©LPi

CHRIST THE KING

The Solemn feast of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe is a relatively recent addition to the Latin Liturgical calendar (Roman Rite of the Church). It was instituted in 1925 by Pope Pius XI (11th).

Prior to 1925, St. Cyril of Alexandria had long held that “Christ has dominion over all creatures…by essence and by nature.”

From this it follows that to Christ angels and men are subject. Thus, Paul puts it beautifully that “our bodies are members of Christ” (1Cor. 6:15) and that we are purchased with a “great price.”

May we serve Christ Our King with Love, and look forward to being members of His Eternal Kingdom in the life here after.

HAPPY CHRIST THE KING FEAST DAY!

THANKSGIVING

There’s power in Thanksgiving! This is because in the Bible, Thanksgiving means “to respond to God’s goodness and grace with gratitude.”

Thus, as an annual National Holiday in the United States, Thanksgiving Day, celebrates the harvest and other blessings of the past year, modeling the day on a 1621 harvest feast shared by the English colonists (Pilgrims) of Plymouth.

As Catholics it is so much more meaningful because it is God’s will for us in Christ Jesus. By being thankful we focus on the good things in our lives, especially, on the blessings that God has given us and our families.

On Thursday, November 25, let us focus on the good we have and have a better outlook on our world, on our church and our own lives. Let us be a happier people.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING and GOD BLESS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!
